Whatever works. I personally would find it totally traumatic to be motivated by embarrassment.

But have, I have never understood large-scale perversity such as manners for manner's own sake(as opposed to respect for people and/or clear communication) , or small-scale things that ... I will refrain from specifying unless you want me to be explicit...
