One of our players missed combat encounters (she did enjoy it more when we started talking about dragon battles), and I know plenty of people who really enjoy optimizing their characters with abilities and gear etc., but if your favorite parts of D&D are the worldbuilding and fun roleplay scenes then this really is a game with all the best parts :)
