schneefink: River walking among trees, from "Safe" (procrastinators unite)

The ship is alive and the human is the clueless alien and they are all crazy

I have started watching Farscape *headdesk* It's not like I have dozens of other things (both non-fannish and fannish) to do, preferably soon, in some cases definitely-should-have-done-this-months-ago. And so much stuff to catch up on after the skiing holidays (they were great!) And yes, I promised L. I would watch Doctor Who next and was recced Buffy several times, and my brother and I had agreed to try and watch a series together next month so we can discuss it together. Also I should re-watch both SGA and Leverage for my next writing projects (sga_genficathon and timetraveler!Parker, whee!) and did I mention I do not have the time?
I have no self-control.

But it's fun! Crazy, crazy fun. I have watched five episodes and already there were doppelgangers and time shenanigans. My favorite episode so far is "Exodus from Genesis", with the extremely creepy bugs that I was so convinced were evil, and the surprising and very fitting and actually beautiful twist and ending, and Crichton playing superior lifeform and then talking to Aeryn, and Rygel! Loved it. I like the characters and their interactions and I'm looking forward to more information about their background (except Crichton's. Aliens are much more interesting.) Btw, I am extremely unsurprised that one of the places where I first heard about Farscape is [community profile] kink_bingo. I'm looking forward to the fic/vids/fanart once I've finished watching.

I hate feeling guilty because I'm procrastinating and not getting things done -.- I promised LB that I would get up early and go register for sports courses at university with him tomorrow (he wants to leave at 4:30! Crazy!), but at least he bribed me with chocolate. Mmm, chocolate. And now sleeep (seriously, stop it, brain, you can have another episode tomorrow, I promise. As soon as at least five things on this ****-long list get done. And stop thinking of Parker on Moya, it's a time machine not a TARDIS.)

Drive-by Farscape squee! I am terribly fond of Exodus from Genesis - it is one of my favorite early episodes.

(All of my Farscape icons are spoilery, alas. Thus, we go with a different fandom.)

FARSCAPE!!!!!!!!!!!! I keep trying to get my friends in real life to watch it, but I think it helps when coming from fandom because we're expecting and wanting insanity and 10 different endings, etc etc and that's kind of what we get. Oh, I love it.

Farscape is amazingly fantastic and probably my favorite tv show of all time, but it is so hard to get new people into (you wouldn't believe the number of people who are put off by the puppets, which I just do not get). But it's an amazing ride.

Watch Farscape!!! claudiapriscus started a rewatch_comm last year and we all flaked on her, but what a hoot!!! FARSCAPE!! :)

Oh, oh, when I think of season 2 and 3 - flail! I still need to finish Farscape but now I am saving and savouring it :)

Ah, Farscape, what a kooky, crazy, weirdo little show. Muppets in Space doesn't even begin to capture it. There are not many shows that could be as convincingly over the top silly as well as heart-wrenchingly sad, poignant and moving. That's not to say the show did not have it's faults, but if it was good it was a delight. And next you HAVE to watch BtVS - because that's fandom 101, basically.

You're encouraging my laziness xD
I heard that season 2 is supposed to be better, so I'm looking forward to that. Fortunately I'm almost unspoiled :)

Crazy muppets in space! *g*

What do you mean by "fandom 101"? I'm perfectly happy being in fandom without having seen it (so are many others, e.g. anime fans.)

Oh, and try and remain as unspoiled as you can. I ruined a few things by my own inability to stay away form fic and fanvids :)

Season 2 is awesome!! I am still holding thumbs for season 4 as I heard it gets a little weird

I am! It's hard, but I'll just have to watch more episodes instead. Not exactly a hardship ^^

Ah, well, that comment just gives away my age I guess ;)... Probably bad choice of words. I didn't mean that you have to watch BtVS to be in fandom or to be able to enjoy it. Rather, that this was the first, or at least the biggest fandom that kind of exploded on the internet with a huge, very active fandom that produced an endless stream of meta, artwork, fic and vids and where there was quite a lot of interaction between the creators and fandom. So BtVS is interesting from a fandom history point of view, and since it's already on your list I just wanted to say: Yay, go for it! :)

Fannish age and time-keeping: "When I first went to cons everyone was crazy about X", "I was only in fandom for two years when wank Y happened", "When I discovered online fandom everyone was still writing A/B, can you imagine?" *g*

That is an interesting part of fandom history :) I only discovered online fandom (of TV shows) years after BtVS was cancelled and I still learned a lot about it just by fannish osmosis. (Unfortunately this is also a reason why I'm not that eager to watch it: I already know a lot about what happens.)

*grins* You've been caught by the Farscape Virus! \o/

And it will only get better!!!! =)

[identity profile] schneefink.livejournal.com 2012-02-18 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I have. Wow. I just watched Durka's Return (OMG don't kill Moya's baby you fucking bastard, I was so so worried NOT MOYA's BABY) and Human Reaction: they killed Rygel, NOOOO! And D'Argo! And poor John, you never get a break, and he thought he could come home, he thought he saw his father again, and then when he thought he went crazy - John :(
(Jeremiah Crichton, otoh, was bad.)

Why did nobody tell me how fantastic this show is, seriously, I love it so much.

Oh yes, John! *hugs him* But that's why I love his character - he's been put through the wringer but doesn't give up. What he's been through in the first few episodes in Season 1 alone. Oh boy.
