The 100 3x07-3x08
Last weekend DD and I were both sick, so this Sunday we watched two episodes of The 100. In hindsight we were lucky, because 3x07 would have been frustrating to stop at. I was spoiled for the big thing that happens and I thought I was prepared, but I was wrong. I'd be fine with that it happened, but I hate how it happened.
Lexa dies by accident, shot by Titus. Wtf. She deserves better than to die by freaking accident. In battle, fighting for her people, or killed for her beliefs or protecting someone, yes, but like this? What a waste. Right after she and Clarke finally went to bed together, what a ~coincidence. She dies in bed without even her forehead symbol. Ugh.
The Commanders being implanted with Allie 2.0 is very cool, at least! I wonder how much and how the Commanders and Allie 2.0 communicate.
I suspect "nightblood" shows compatibility? DD and I weren't sure how kids get nightblood – probably nanites - it's not hereditary, so how? My theory is that all children are exposed to them and it only "takes" with some of them.
I liked the flashback with Becca. The woman whose creation destroyed the world, ouch.
Hi Murphy. Clarke calls him her friend, probably only because he's one of her people, they haven't exactly interacted much as friends. Odds that Murphy (and Clarke) will be blamed for Lexa's death are indeed high, except Titus promised to protect Clarke, but who knows who the new Commander will be… probably the ice nation girl we saw before, or the eighth person at Lexa's Ascension mentioned in this episode, who didn't die.
I didn't like Octavia here. She thinks Lexa betrayed Clarke, and Skaikru, because she said to kill everyone who broke the barrier? Octavia saw what Pike and his men wanted to do! She's familiar with Trikru traditions! Did she really think Lexa could tell her people not to kill anyone, even though Arkadia started with slaughtering 300 people who were there to protect them? And then Octavia tells Clarke if she doesn't return she's "not the person I thought you were." What gives Octavia the right to judge anyone? For her everything always looks straight-forward, she doesn't look far ahead and she expects everyone else to be perfect.
I did like that Clarke admitted that she'd do, and say, anything to protect her people, when Titus protested her advice. I'm not sure she realized exactly how much Lexa accommodated her. I expected Lexa to set a deadline for a power change in Arkadia, an endless blockade isn't a solution either.
I like that they had one episode centered on Polis and now one on Arkadia, otherwise it would have felt too disjointed.
This episode would have been a lot better if we'd seen more of Kane and Bellamy interacting before, instead their on-screen relationship is trying to sell more than we saw. Yes, Kane still doesn't want to kill anyone, but by now he really should have realized that that's not always possible. (He was there in the Mountain!) If Kane and Bellamy had a closer relationship Kane refusing to drive straight at him would make more sense.
Apart from failing to follow through it was a good plan, but.
Monty and Bellamy finally having second thoughts, yes! Apparently it took Pike planning to kill one of their own people, who cares what happens to Grounders. At least to Bellamy, Monty looked doubtful before that. The four people we saw Monty relating most to were Jasper, who's useless right now, Clarke, who left, Bellamy, who's with Pike, and his mom, who's also with Pike. (Maybe Sinclair, but that's only told and not shown.) Monty's mom told him that everything is okay if it's for survival, that must sound familiar to Monty: both from what he did to the Mountain people, and what the Mountain people told themselves to justify torturing and killing Grounders and the 100. I wish we got more insight into what Monty and Bellamy are thinking right now, I hope we see them talking soon.
Raven is starting to fight Allie! Yes, you go Raven!
Where was Abby? Weird that she wasn't there.
At least we saw Kane with two other people, a woman and the gay soldier – Miller and Harper, I learned at the end of this episode, and I still don't know who is who. A couple being on different sides of the line in Arkadia could become interesting, but at first I'd at least like to know their names.
DD and I started talking about a D/s AU and realized that it's basically canon. Bellamy would be a sub, but he's always had to take care of his sister so he tries hard to be a dom, especially when they first get to the ground. It doesn't really work, and he gets the main romance storyline where he's ~really just looking for a ~strong dom to love and ground him. He thinks he's found her, but Clarke leaves and he hasn't forgiven her. Kane wasn't strict enough and Bellamy wanted more structure, so now he's following Pike. It's easier.
Kane and Abby are both doms, which is why it took them so long to get together.
Clarke and Lexa are also both doms. On the Arc the sub/dom roles were taken very seriously, as a kind of "we have to rely on some things now that we've lost civilization", while on the ground they're a lot more flexible.
Lincoln is a switch, and at first Octavia is surprised that he's completely comfortable with it.
Monty is a sub, Jasper a dom, but they were never together (fooled around once, found out they're better off as friends.) After Maia's death Jasper accuses Monty of killing her because he was jealous.
Raven was Finn's dom, obviously.
Murphy is another sub who pretends to be a dom but it goes horribly wrong; unlike Bellamy, though, he really isn't looking for any kind of relationship, and the assumption that he should makes him angry.
I found more a/b/o than D/s AUs for The 100 on AO3, it's obvious which one is the more recent fandom trend. (If there's meta comparing/contrasting the two I'd love to read it.)
