I am utterly unsurprised that Livejournal is under continued DDOS attack: today Russia elects a new parliament. Or, people can vote, and then there will be a new parliament. "Democracy" is a wonderful thing.

Thank you so much for looking at the LJ attacks from a 'bigger picture' pov rather than a personal inconvinience!

People have been moaning all over LJ about the downtime (which is obviously annoying) without considering why it is happening or reflecting on the fact that what some of us consider a basic right is what other people are still fighting for.

"Yeah, sure, I support the Russians who fight for freedom of speech, but can they not do it somewhere where it won't affect my ability to read fic whenever I like?" *sigh*

(Although, to be very honest, if I didn't have DW and the AO3 etc. I would probably be a bit more annoyed, too.)

Today is election in Moscow. I have not seen a single piece of advertisement for a party other than Единая Россия.

Just that. But I've also seen lots of comments that did not seem aware there was a 'bigger picture'.

I'll be as patient as needed, now that I know what the DDOS attacks are occuring, which frankly are quite scary.

but I wasn't even aware that LJ was experiencing issues 'now' - so, hopefully it won't be as bad as last time.

They got it back up remarkably fast. (Maybe because the hackers were busy with all the newspapers and stuff.) And the election is (mostly) over.
