D&D: Back to the right kind of stone

- Most of us are un-petrified again!
The medusa demanded of our surviving (i.e. absent last week) party members to decide who should die, she would revive the others. At one point the druid wanted to sacrifice her animal companion, which the medusa said didn't count, and the NPC paladin wanted to sacrifice herself, which the PCs didn't want her to do because she's kinda important for our later plans to save the world.
At this point my cat familiar intervened. Her only goal was to save me, so she destroyed the statue of one of our [absent] party members to fulfill the medusa's condition and get me back. My cat is smug, my poor character is feeling conflicted ^^
On a meta level, before I did that the DM gave me a note saying that player wanted to roll a new character anyway. However for his amusement he only let me tell the other party members after the fact, so for a few minutes they were understandably quite angry at me… while the DM was enjoying it.
The DM told us later that if all of us had been petrified, he'd have had the medusa wake us up five months later, when the army had already reached their goal.

- Last week [personal profile] dhampyresa asked if it was too early to ship scorpion lady and medusa.
We have now learned that one of them came to the mountain with the goal to resurrect the god and the other to destroy what was left of the god. However they and their parties were both captured by the spider lady decades ago. Spider lady imprisoned the souls of their companions and is using them to blackmail scorpion lady and medusa into doing her bidding. As a convenient consequence scorpion lady (resurrected) and medusa were happy to give us any information we wanted and even some loot they had lying around because they think we're trying to kill spider lady. Which… isn't actually our plan, because we want the spider lady's help against the army planning to conquer the continent, but once we've dealt with the army we'll be very happy to deal with spider lady. She thinks of herself as neutral because that's her higher goal, but that's not what her actions indicate. She's also keeping a baby dragon captive to blackmail the big dragon, so there might be some dragon-stealing in our future…
Related question, how good of an idea is it to animate the skeleton of a huge ogre for our undead NPC rogue to inhabit so that she can use a weapon that can only be wielded by huge creatures that medusa and scorpion lady would be willing to give us. A huge skeleton doesn't seem like the ideal form for a rogue, but none of the rest of us are or could (quickly) become huge and it's a really cool weapon.

- Like in most fun sessions there was this moment when the party had a fantastic idea that made the DM face-palm.
From just one session playing DM I already know that it's very easy to oversee very obvious things for the PCs to do, but our DM is already experienced and knows us. So when we found out that scorpion lady is actually a human were-scorpion, and that she is capable of passing it on with a bite, I really don't know why he didn't anticipate that we'd try to use that somehow… Almost all of our party are made of stone, one is undead and the others are non-humanoid, so that wouldn't work. And then there's the NPC dragon paladin. We just asked for fun, really, but the DM said that since the dragon is in half-elf form most of the time it actually would work. So our wyrmling gold dragon is now also a were-scorpion. Not gargantuan like scorpion lady – for some reason he didn't want to give our NPC ally an upgrade with twenty hit dice – but still very cool.
