I was happy with a fic I had written for

fandomtrees, and then I read the letter again just in case and saw that I had managed to focus exactly on one of the DNWs *headdesk* I are smart. No-one I can re-gift it to, unfortunately... hopefully I can at least still write a drabble or something. I had plans to write more but that didn't happen.

DD convinced me to use her hair routine to see if it would make my hair more curly, and it kinda worked! I'm not used to it though and it looks funny. I don't think I'll do it again, definitely not regularly, but it was fun to try out.

DD yesterday: "We need to work on your hair. And on your character."
Me: ???
DD: "What does an undead butler dress like?"
Me: ... Oooh, you mean my character for the TTRPG we were talking about a few minutes ago xD
We're planning to play "The Wizard's Staff" from the microsetting collection "Odd Jobs" and I very much look forward to it. I'm playing an undead butler and MSZ is playing an enchanted soup tureen and we have to pretend our wizard is still alive, it'll be great.

We also watched most of season 2 of The Witcher. DD watched season 1, I didn't, but I have been reading quite a bit of Witcher fic recently (mostly by

inexplicifics.) I've decided I much prefer their version to TV canon. The reason why I wanted to check it out was because I saw gifs on Tumblr from scenes with Jaskier and Yennefer, and those scenes were indeed great, but a lot of the rest of it I didn't enjoy, and the last two episodes we fast-forwarded through. I think Jaskier is the only character I actually like, especially because he was smuggling elves out of Oxenfurt. The ongoing genocide makes many people/factions very hard to root for.

I finished playing Katana ZERO. It took me about twice as long as is apparently average, but the combat was good enough and the story intriguing enough that I didn't mind having to try certain levels a few dozen times. I'm not going to play it again but I enjoyed it, overcoming the challenges was very satisfying. It was darker than I thought it would be, but that was my fault, I knew from the beginning that it was about a serial killer, though I didn't know about the war or had forgotten about it. Afterwards, thinking the story through, there are certain elements that are, hm, a bit thin... but the concept of Chronos is very interesting. I still think the last boss battle - not the secret one I later read about, which I didn't fight - makes no sense but whatever, it was fun.

I'm not fannish about the TV show, and I couldn't get into the books, but I enjoyed both the second and the third game! (I didn't play the first.) The second game has a lot of political elements, the third somewhat less so. Both games have Jaskier (Dandelion), the third game has Yennefer.

I got the third game on sale a while ago and I will probably play it one day because I heard so many good things about it :) (But probably not soon because I also heard it's very long and there are so many other games.)

Aw, too bad about your FandomTrees fic - I'm hopeful that the deadline/reveals will get pushed so I can actually finish something I started for this!

It got pushed back until Tuesday, so in theory I now have time to write something new, but otoh it means I have to wait until Tuesday for reveals...

Haha, that's absolutely legit I think! I'll have to check out that author's fic then, thank you for the rec. :D

Ah, sorry for writing explicitly about a DNW, what a bummer. But maybe you can at least upload it to AO3 and other people may find it?

Do check out their fic! The Accidental Warlord series is wonderfuul, and their WIP Must Brave the Thorns is delightful and currently updates five times a week.

I definitely plan to upload it to AO3 eventually. But now that I have more time I start thinking about the additional editing I could do...

Oh, I remember now having thoroughly enjoyed With a Conquering Air, but I wasn't aware it was a series and that the author wrote even an AU for their AU. Excellent! :D

Argh, no, accidentally including DNWs is the worst feeling - especially when the fic is almost done :( Been there and it's never fun, but it's great that you caught that before gifting the fic - best of luck with writing on!

That TTRPG sounds super fun! Not familiar with Odd Jobs (at least I think I'm not XD) but the title alone is promising :) How many are playing?

I really should get caught up on The Witcher - Jaskier's actor's band dropped a new album recently, so that distracted me from actually watching the show XD Jaskier is easily my favorite character on the show as well, but I'm kinda entertained by all of it in the "shut off my brain at watch fantasy shenanigans" kind of way.

Odd Jobs was a Kickstarter project I backed that just came out recently. There are 11 micro-settings and they're all great, and the art is gorgeous. I've only read half the book because I want to play all of them so I haven't read the "GM only" sections, but I'm definitely planning to write about the experience once we've played one :) For this one we'll be one GM and two players.

Another advantage of Jaskier is that he's the main comic relief side character, so even though bad things can happen to him I'm reasonably certain that he'll have a not entirely tragic ending. I didn't want to become invested in Fringilla and Francesca since I was constantly expecting the not fun kind of tragedy just around the corner.

Ah, that's where I recognize the title from - I think I saw that Kickstarter pop up in my "things to maybe back" feed when it was active. Seems like a bunch of fun game settings! Just the right kind of game for a two player party I imagine :) Looking forward to hearing about what it was like to play!

Yuuuup. I happen to have the added "advantage" in that I've seen so many versions of the Witcher story (gameplay, the original books, a gazillion fanfics) that my brain sort of goes "Ah, so this is what this AU is like" when I watch the TV show. I mean, Jaskier is apparently some kind of immortal now, which I'm fine with, but the TV show is basically "Xena: Warrior Witcher" to me at this point, constant tragedy and all XD
