The 100, now with bonus torture
I recently watched the second half of season 3 of The 100 with DD. Several times I had to look away because I didn't want to watch the torture scenes. Most if not all of them really didn't need to be as graphic as they were: no really I understand things are bad even without close-up shots of people being tortured. The show is dark enough without that. All the torture and unnecessarily graphic violence made it hard for me to enjoy the show.
I'm now down to two people I care about (plus three when I'm feeling generous), the others I'm merely curious about, at most. I'm annoyed because the show has a lot of potential, but because of storylines and character arcs that weren't well done and characters being stupid it's not nearly as good as it could be.
The situation at the end of season 3: Alie 1.0 is dead, and everyone who was chipped has their minds back. This includes an unknown number of people from Arkadia – how many are left, maybe a hundred? Ontari is dead, and there are no nightbloods old enough to have been sent to Polis, so five or older. Alie claimed the nuclear fusion reactors are melting down and most of the Earth will be uninhabitable in six months, but we only have her word for it.
What happens next with the Grounders? Roan is dead too, and so are presumably at least some of the ambassadors. The only Flamekeeper left is Murphy. (And Clarke, in theory.) How they react probably depends a lot on how much the Grounders know about Alie and how much they blame the Sky People. They know that it was the Sky People who brought the City of Light, and they won't be happy about it at all. Without a Commander their alliance will fall apart. Clarke however knows that Lexa wanted the clans united to create peace, so she'll at least give them back the Flame (also because the Sky People can't do anything with it and withholding the Flame would not make the Grounders happy.) The Grounders could agree on a sort of council, or a different compromise until new nightbloods are born and/or old enough, but that will take years.
I love the idea of Murphy as Flamekeeper though. I don't think he does, or Clarke, but someone should write the story where Murphy has to stay in Polis as Flamekeeper.
Another story I want to read is the one where Murphy, Indra, and Pike succeed in destroying Alie while she's transferring from the Arkadia mainframe to what's left of the Arc. In general I want all the canon-divergent AUs.
Incomplete list of things I didn't like:
- Yes yes narrativum, but it was annoying how long it took Clarke to finally pull the lever to kill Alie while her allies were dying.
- Harper and Monty pairing up. Really, does everyone need to be in a relationship? That seemed like such a classic "pair the spares" moment. All to make Monty more concerned when Jasper threatened Harper, imo unnecessary
- It was annoying how long Bellamy took him to think along the lines of "maybe what I did wasn't okay" instead of "anything to save Octavia." Clarke's speech to him about how intentions matter was on the one hand bullshit, otoh it's clear Clarke needs to believe that. They're both so messed up. (They're all so young!)
- Sinclair died (and the last thing he saw was Emerson grabbing Raven, unnecessarily cruel), Monty's mom died, Lincoln died, Pike died – so many PoC with recurring roles, ugh, not a good picture. I was also sad that Monroe died, we didn't see much of her but I liked her and it wasn't necessary. I'd have preferred her to stay alive over Harper.
Incomplete list of things I liked:
- Hi Lexa! It was nice to at least see her again.
- I liked Luna. I'm still not entirely clear on how Alie got to the island, but I'm glad that even after that Luna stayed her course.
- Poor Monty, whose mom betrayed him, and he shot her to save Octavia. Monty was the only one (we don't know about Clarke) who didn't give in to Alie when someone he loved was threatened. Twice. You go Monty.
Other:
- Obviously Alie becoming "more powerful" the more people were in the City meant that she had a lot more influence over these people, compared to what she could do with Raven in the beginning. Creepy. She still gave people the illusion of choice to take the key though, so I wonder a bit about how she got Jasper. I don't care enough about Jasper to think about it too much though.
In other news, one wound from my wisdom teeth removal got infected. They already cut it open twice to let the pus out and I have another appointment tomorrow. Now I finally get why so many people hate going to the dentist -.-
I really need to fix my laptop (it's still running but not in good shape), but I don't like having to deal with that so I keep putting it off and just closing all the warning notices. Probably not smart.
Pens won the first game of the SCF, second game is tonight! I'll sleep before and after and get up to watch it, in my XL yellow Pens Gold Rush shirt, because YOLO. (Without DD tonight because she has uni tomorrow.) I'm not optimistic enough to expect the Pens to win game 2 too, but I can still hope.

I'll probably feel the exact same way - very nervous - before game 3, but if they can split the games in San Jose maybe I can finally feel optimistic? 14 down only 2 to go, I still can barely believe it.

I know we were favored by the models since the beginning of the postseaon over any other particular team, but I never trusted those models, and anyway to start with we were at a like 14% probably of winning the cup, even if that was higher than anyone else. So this is just, like, amazing? I never thought we'd get here. Honestly once we got past Washington to the conference final, I could have been happy with any result. But I still want us to win it all.

(I don't trust Murray as much anymore as I did in the beginning, not after the Lightning series. At this point I think Fleury would be the better goalie, if only he hadn't been side-lined for so long. But Murray will do fine as long as the offense continues to score. Fingers crossed.)
Game day!!!!
