Snakes (harmless) and ghosts (probably harmless) and spiders (not at all harmless, but fictional)
In our latest D&D session:
- we explored the library and then burned it down
- we decided to try and ally with the huge sentient magical spider instead of fighting it: the enemy of my enemy, the enemy in this case being the approaching army
- my undead cat familiar is very invested in me learning necromancy. She is suspiciously familiar with the details of the army of the undead that devastated the world and killed some of the gods eighty years ago. Oh and she also accidentally revealed that not all of the necromancers who led that army are dead (my familiars are so cool) (details)
- there is still a demon in my head, but at least now my character wants to get rid of her too
- my character can turn into a gargoyle now.
Speaking of death, LB and I recently attended the funeral of our "honorary grandfather", who babysat us when we were kids. I hadn't seen him in about ten years, but his widow was very happy that we came. It was a very religious and serious ceremony. Afterwards LB and I discussed which songs we wanted to be played at our funerals, we both agreed we wanted something a bit lighter. I suggested the theme song from Ghostbusters, LB for some reason wasn't convinced…
Today together with dad and LB we wandered around on the Kahlenberg, really more of a hill near Vienna. It was sunny and very nice. We even saw a snake! I saw snakes much more often when I was a kid, but not in several years, so I'm happy I finally saw one again. I think it was a small Aesculapian snake, but I'm not sure.
Now for some reason I'm exhausted, it's barely 11pm yet and I usually go to bed later. WCOH Sweden-Europe went to OT, which I wasn't thrilled by, but then Team Europe won :)
The week wasn't very productive, but at least since DD moved in (more on that later) I've been eating very well, and it's nice to live and cook and eat with someone else again. Next step, actually Do More. I've started dreading my therapy sessions because having to admit how little I've done is embarrassing. Ah well, there's still hope.

Sooo background, my character woke up one day without any memories and eventually discovered that she is a spellcaster, more specifically a sorcerer. She has this vague idea that sorcerers can have familiars, so she improvises a ritual to see what happens. Right then she's in a cave in a magical mountain, which is either a very good or a very bad place for a ritual like that. Two animals appear and become her familiars.
Meta, the DM was planning to make me choose between them, meeean. However someone mentioned that it was theoretically possible to have two familiars, and the DM didn't realize that I still had one free feat because I couldn't decide, so I got to have both :)
Meta, the DM rolls and both familiars turn out to be Neutral Evil, while my character is Chaotic Good. Tricky...
In-game, her familiars have tricked the party, tried to blackmail other party members, and made bets on her survival, but she still loves them and believes that they would never really harm her. (which would also harm them, so that's likely.) They don't follow her orders automatically, when it's something risky she has to convince them every time.
One of the familiars is a magical beetle, Sal. He's hedgehog-sized, like most beetles of his kind on this mountain, but in a few decades he could become enormous. He has magical gems growing on his back that are able to weakly sense magic. He can fly, and he has limited telekinesis. He's always hungry, and he prefers to eat carrion.
Her other familiar is a grey undead cat, Nera. On the mountain they're on nothing can die, when something dies it just becomes undead, so at first my character thought that's what happened to her. However later she learned that Nera is a different kind of undead and is around or over a hundred years old. She knows how necromantic spells work (though she probably can't cast any), she can perceive necromantic auras, oh and she can dissolve her physical body almost completely, making it possible for her to walk through solid matter. She originally came from a different continent, but she doesn't like talking about her background. All my character has found out so far is that she knows something and was likely in some fashion involved with the army of the undead that fought against the gods several decades ago, enough so that she knows that at least one of the necromancers survived.
Nera wants my character to become a necromancer too. She told her that with necromancy she could create a body for a friend of hers who currently lacks one, so my character is planning to learn at least that spell, even though the druid is not happy.
They're both so much fun! :D
(Also on a meta-level a nice "insurance", if my character dies the DM says he'll roll if my familiars survive, and if they do I want to keep playing as one of them...)

I like snakes a lot. For a while I wanted one as a pet, I don't really anymore but it's still fun to say to shock relatives ^^
