Destiny Manipulation #26: This time we're actually close to the end! …pretty sure

This time, we were all almost sure, would finally be the bank heist. So after a round of shopping the players planned and then decided that the best way to rob a vault would be from the inside, so they needed someone to buy a vault of appropriate size at the bank and then smuggle some people in (extradimensional storage spaces, so convenient.) I'd already lazily jumped over that, "okay you buy a vault, and then…", because another player had bought a vault there the day before (it was just too small), but fortunately the player asked if we could roleplay the scene. Then he rolled very very badly on his bluff checks, and the bank teller very good on her checks, and in the end he had to leave quickly before being arrested for forged documents. And then the bank closed for the day, and that was the end of the first plan *g*

They then debated a frontal assault, because they wanted the help of an NPC that is leaving town (and in fact the entire plane) the next night. Instead they persuaded that NPC to try again early the next night, since the dimensional portal would only be activated at midnight, plenty of time. …yes.
So when my players finally found the professor inside the bank vault, who they'd been searching for for months out of game, and he told them that his kidnappers were planning to use the portal at the moment of activation to summon their destroyer god, they found out they only had a few hours left xD The clock is ticking!

On the one hand the extra time pressure, originating from the failed vault purchase, is exciting. On the other hand now with all this extra time pressure some characters are very worried, and instead of reinforcing the security around the portal by themselves, which I'd thought they'd do, they decided "screw our allies' wish to go back to their home dimension, making sure this world doesn't end is more important" (which, fair) and immediately got the city guard and the university involved. …ummm.

In return, of course, their NPC ally decided fuck that and to make sure the city guard/university won't disturb the portal ritual, which incidentally leaves two of the party still inside the bank with no clear way out. (They thought they could build themselves an iron box and then teleport, because most anti-teleportation spells are emanations, but I found one that isn't, so, bad luck. And that's not me being mean, that's the bank being smart. Though I probably would have let them leave if I'd already known then that they would notify the city guard and piss off their NPC ally.)

Now I have to hope two characters find a way out of the vault in time for the final battle, then find a way for the party to play a major role in the final battle and not just the city guard and university (while having to find a way for the city guard and the university to still appear competent), and then see how the final battle plays out :) Basically I still need to build the traps and golems Tony Stark made in the past few months, ugh prep work.
Probably next time the players will find out who this group of dimension travelers actually is, I can't wait. (They know about the humans Nat, Peter, and Jane, and Scrapper the Valkyrie, and next time they'll almost certainly meet Tony and Bruce, and probably the Hulk ^^ - hm, maybe the Hulk can take care of the city guard…)

Exciting times indeed! At least you have a fun reveal ahead as well as all that prep to do. ^_^

It's an adventure in more ways than one, isn't it! :D
