Snowflake challenge #12:
In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

I already did that, but I want to add one fannish goal: rec something at least once a month. For a few months last year I managed to rec something fairly regularly on the community recs post on recthething but then I fell off again. To my own surprise I've realized how worried I sometimes am about being, hm, ~judged for the stories I like - which is stupid, and something I've made progress with when it comes to fandoms themselves but apparently not fic. Huh. Weird, and I don't like it; I'll try to work on it.

I already recced things in January thanks to the snowflake challenge (MCYT emduo, 4 fanart + 7 fic recs), but maybe I will manage a few more, and if not then next month.

If you are afraid of being judged, you can always get a second account and rec stuff on fancake, where nobody knows it's you? Pay no attention to the fact that I will directly benefit from your reccing things in a comm I follow, lol!

I don't think I've ever recced something on fancake, huh. Maybe another goal for this year.

What a great goal!! I'd love to see more rec lists as well, and do more of my own in addition to the quick recs on bnha_fans. I need to figure out a system that works for me. Good luck with your goal!!

Thanks! I have this very nice document full of fics I planned to rec and then I never do it... maybe I should try to make it a regular thing, every two weeks or so.

I'm not reading a lot of TMA right now, just following a bunch of my favorite writers/WIPs, but I still owe a TMA story for an auction so getting back into it would be a good idea anyway :)

I know what you mean by being worried about judgment over things you like. I try to remember that people don't think about us the way we think they do, because they're usually too worried about themselves but it is easier said than done.

Doesn't help that sometimes I look back at things I recced a few years ago and I definitely wouldn't rec them again today. Ah well. Have to remind myself that it doesn't matter if something is "objectively" "good" as long as I enjoy it.

Feeling judged for your recommendations seems like a more normal worry for people these days, maybe for the same reason people feel judged (or entitled to judge) for what they create in fanworks.
