For some reason I'm in the mood for knitting.

On Thursday we had a power outage from noon to nine in the evening. It was mostly boring after it went dark. We had some candles in the house and two flashlights, so I went running and then knitted a bit, and in the end I had a surprisingly pleasant evening. And the heating works again!
Unfortunately my brain apparently chose to ignore the day and things got hectic on Friday and Saturday. Extra late fees for the library because I forgot are annoying.

Then yesterday I had the first birthday party with friends in years. The years before I always felt like I didn't know enough people to invite, or didn't know what to do. This year I just invited the debate club and some other friends to my house to play Werewolf. We played for five hours with fifteen people, it was a lot of fun! I even won as last surviving werewolf once.
Today I'm predictably sleepy and my brain is slow, but I made it through 3 hours of OTW meetings.

I found a pretty graphic on Tumblr: Spaceship appreciation. What are the second and third spaceships? I recognize all the others. (Although for some reason Serenity and the Falcon don't appear anymore, they were there a few hours ago...)
I wish I was awake enough to write about why "you can't take the sky from me" is such an ironic sentence in combination with spaceships. Regardless of how you interpret sky a spaceship is one of the most unsafe modes of transportation, and it just needs one missing replacement part to strand you on a planet or kill you somewhere in space where nobody will ever find you.

I've been following [personal profile] layla's participation in the Worldbuilding Blogfest, and by "following" I mean "asking many questions." It's been a lot of fun, and I really like what she came up with. Islands full of people with wings! Worldbuilding is even more fun when I don't have to worry about annoying details destroying my own plot. That's not quite true, I miss it. Maybe I should try it again, just for fun.
One of the first things I did was cast an SGA AU, btw. Somehow I worry what this fandom has done to my brain.

Because I don't have the energy for anything productive today anyway I watched some Farscape episodes.

My Three Crichtons: Predictable, not particularly interesting. Meh.
Beware of the Dog: So Zhaan is the background doctor now? :( Admittedly not predictable, the parasite was indeed creepy and so was the predator alien. It would have been a nice filler episode, but by this point I'm really bored of filler episodes.
Won't Get Fooled Again: Finally, something that has a connection to what might be plot! Yay! Scorpius is appropriately creepy in this, poor Crichton (his mother, that's low), with a few very cracky bits in between (the sky date of "D'Argo" and Crichton, haha.) John really is the whipping boy of the universe, and I doubt it gets better. The foreshadowing for the neurochip was nicely done, as was Scorpius forcing him to suppress the knowledge. I foresee yet another torture scene...
I'm still missing the quality of season one. I'll watch the season finale and then decide if I want to continue.

The second one is the Galactica, from Battlestar Galactica, which is possibly the best sci-fi series of all time. Also best characters. Best female characters!

I love that the Normandy is in there too :D

Thanks! I've heard "best sci-fi series of all time" too often to believe it anymore, but it's on my (too long) list of series to watch when I've got time :)

The TARDIS is missing, but it wouldn't fit that well visually ;)

I had loads of fun discussing world-building with you! \o/ And I really appreciate all the help. Thank you so much! (Heeee~~~, casting an SGA AU - that is awesome!) I do plan to continue developing this setting - I'm having a lot of fun with it - and since I've already started making posts about it, I think I'll keep on doing so! I don't normally do my worldbuilding in public, but this is going well.

Now that the worldbuilding fest week is over, though, there are a few other projects I want to work on before I go back to it.

There should always be more wingfic! Especially Teyla with wings. And Teyla the badass trader. And, for some reason, Teyla on ships. To combine all of these, Teyla comes from a tiny island of Fishers that is basically a trading outpost of the larger island with the cities. That means she often comes in contact with dolphin/lizard/other people (she's very curious about other cultures) and she's very good at an archaic form of sky-dancing that comes from a less peaceful time. (What would be the most efficient way to fight in the air? Swords, spears, nets?) She's good friends with Sora - going with the underground theme logically she would be a dolphin, but I want her to have wings so she and Teyla can fly together. Probably a different winged people (Wayfarer descendants?) But their islands are apart so they don't see each other very often.
Rodney can be a dolphin, Ronon a lizard, Ford has wings, Jennifer could be a dolphin too?, Elizabeth has wings but doesn't particularly love flying, and just for fun I want to make John a winged cat, but it's probably impractical.
Then there is political intrigue with the Genii and the looming danger of whatever the Wraith look like (dragons?) and it might be Teyla/Sora UST just because I can, depending on how it works out.
I am not writing this, btw.
I think.

I'm very glad you're thinking of keeping the worldbuilding posts public! :D I'm looking forward to them when you get back to this project.
