New memorable number: 2258

There's currently very unpleasant debate club drama going on. I have to get involved because it's the right thing to do, and I completely hate it. It's so bad that if things continue the way they did I might be forced to leave the society. Which on the one hand I would be extremely sad about, because I love debating! I met so many friends there, I learned so much, we organize great projects, and I still think spreading debating is important. But I can't accept how the society is currently run. And I'm insulted that "they" apparently thought they can get away with what they're doing without protest or resistance. Watch me.
We'll see how it works out.

Yesterday I met with LK and AV and we continued to watch Babylon 5. Remember how I recently talked about how much I love space politics? It's like someone made Babylon 5 just for me.

Space politics! I especially loved "Deathwalker" and "By any means necessary." Power struggles in the council, cries for justice for atrocious war crimes versus self-interest, namely the prospect of immortality! An (illegal) strike and how to deal with it! If not for the senate's phrasing, the end result of the strike would have been very different. Sinclair got lucky.

I like that they took on difficult topics in "Deathwalker" and "Believers" (AK: "they're doing Jehova's Witnesses in space"), "Survivors" was a great Garibaldi episode, "By and means necessary" was fantastic politics, and "Signs and Portents" is intriguing and gave us sooo much to speculate about.

(I watched until "Believers" when I first started almost a year ago, but fortunately remembered little. Now I'm finally on episodes completely new to me.)

Evil shadow guy - why am I sure convinced that he's evil? He fought with Khosh, but I'm not completely convinced of Vorlon benevolence either. (And he probably won.) Delenn also had a strong negative reaction... The shadow spaceship looks like it has shadow tentacles, very cool. I don't think he's evil as such, the show generally does a good job showing different motivations, but he's definitely very sketchy, probably manipulative, dangerous and not to be trusted.
NO SPOILERS. I'm almost completely unspoiled for this show and I want to stay that way.

I like all the characters, but I love Susan Ivanova. She's amazing. Competent, loyal, caring, sarcastic, gets a lot of satisfaction from fighting and winning ("You are going to resist, I hope") - it feels like I fall a little bit more in love every time she's on the screen. I can't wait to see where she'll go.
(Speculation: Sinclair will lose his job for at least one episode, possibly more, because of political reasons, and she'll first be interim commander, then have to deal with his replacement. I can't wait to see it.)

AK and I are trying to learn the intro, I think we should be able to do it by the end of season 1. I got the ending first. "Humans and aliens, wrapped in two million five hundred thousand tons of spinning metal, all alone in the night. It can be a dangerous place, but it's our last, best hope for peace. This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations. The year is twenty-two fifty-eight. The name of the place is Babylon 5." Our dramatic recital is becoming quite good.

Probably two more meetings to finish season 1 - I'm really looking forward to it!

The reason why we didn't watch more episodes is because LK was making goulash at the same time. It took 8 hours to make, and it was the best goulash I ever had. Completely worth the prep time.
(Apparently it should be even better today! But I can't try it because I have a class reunion. Well, in theory - I still didn't get the information at what time.)

Dare I ask what's up with the drama club?
