schneefink: Babylon 5 (Bab5)

Atonement: Aww, Zack still worries about Garibaldi. And is impolite to Minbari and Lennier tells them to use a bigger needle to stick him with next time *g*
I wondered about G'Kar's new eye, because if this is still the same timeline he has an eyepatch in the future, but if he can remove it, this opens up fun possibilities.
Finally, something about current Minbari politics! I was wondering about that ever since they dissolved the Grey Council. Apparently the clans lead now. This episode reminded me of how young Delenn is, for Minbari. She can be so focused on something that she forgets larger implications.
Info about the triluminary, finally! So Sinclair got it from Epsilon 3, interesting, I don't remember that... I more or less guessed that Delenn was a descendant during the episode, "of Mir" was a big clue. (LK thinks that makes her flirtation with Sinclair awkward, but I don't agree, they're probably about as closely related as fifth cousins.) Sinclair and his family left Minbar after the war because they were persecuted, how and why?
For a second I was afraid that they were going to say something like Delenn likes Sheridan because she's partly human, but fortunately they didn't and she only used the info to destroy the "keep Minbari purity intact" argument. Delenn on a mission is always great to see. She took the compromise not to reveal what she found out, which means that every Minbari who wants to be with someone of another species will have the same problems she did, but otoh it's better to think and prepare carefully before releasing information like that and she could still do it in the future.

Racing Mars: Franklin and Marcus undercover as a married couple on their honeymoon <3 Amazing. Of course Marcus finds it hilarious and plays around with it.
AV and I talked about how the popular trope slowly shifted from "undercover as gay" more towards "undercover as a couple" as the acceptance of homosexuality rises. LK was completely unaware that there is such a trope, sometimes I forget that he's not in fanfic fandom at all ^^
It's a bit worrying that Mars doesn't seem to know anything about the war that went on... Earth's communication lock must be really tight.
They finally find one of the neck parasites! They grow back, wow, that instantly makes them even scarier.
Sheridan, it would have been more prudent not to fight with Garibaldi so publicly, probably...
More Minbari dating rituals. This time, "exploring each other's pleasure center" - but with others listening in *g* And later, Lennier to Sheridan in the elevator, "woo hoo?" Awkward xD But great. (A bit sad maybe if you think Lennier has a romantic crush on Delenn, but I don't.)

Lines of Communication: Franklin is terrible at this persuasion thing. Doesn't offer them anything and comes across as arrogant and condescending. Marcus was much better. Hopefully something will come of this alliance.
Wow, Delenn threatened by one of her own people... for her own good, but still. And then we get to see Delenn, fleet commander. <3 "End this." Do not mess with her.
Yess, finally we hear about Minbari politics! And it's not good. Yes, Delenn, ignoring it was a mistake. But now she goes back, at least. And she talks with Sheridan about it: yes, her duties to her people are more important than her feelings for Sheridan, even though a short while ago she was willing to go against their traditions for the sake of their love. There's a difference. I like that we get to see that it's not a contradiction.

Conflicts of Interest: Poor Zack, caught in the middle. He probably went to Garibaldi personally as a sign of respect, and Garibaldi took it exactly the wrong way.
Garibaldi, are you kidding me, Lise didn't owe you anything at all. I wonder who this Edgars guy is.
Franklin and Ivanova: "What about Epsilon 3?" "Of course, that's so obvious. Everybody would have thought of that in two seconds." "...Well, I wouldn't have thought of it." Heh. "I like her, but she's scary." Accurate, Franklin.
Zathras! Poor Ivanova *g* So there are nine of them left.
Finally they open their own broadcast channel! I was wondering why they didn't have that idea sooner.
Did Franklin and Marcus not share the information about a mind-controlling parasite? That seems rather important.

Rumors, Bargains and Lies: Okay, so Sheridan's plan worked on the surface, the League asked for the White Star patrols and even offered to help, but now they also think that Sheridan is withholding information from them and isn't being honest, which doesn't help in establishing trust. And Sheridan isn't being honest, he treats them a bit like children. Oh sure, as LK pointed out, nobody lied, but that's not the same as honesty. They deliberately tricked them and made them afraid. Franklin asking for additional blood supplies? Wow.
And Sheridan didn't even reveal his plan to his command crew in advance, which seems like a bad way to run such an important station. If you don't tell anyone your plan, nobody could stop and advise you in case it's a bad plan.
Wow, looks like we're far past "Minbari don't kill Minbari" and "Minbari don't lie." Delenn's own caste! Thank god for Lennier. He's so great, and she knows it, she knows how much she depends on him to support her always. And he's so devoted to her, admires her so much and would let himself be ripped apart for her. He lies to her, to protect her belief in her caste. His "be better" to the other Minbar is great.
I like that Delenn went to Neroon for help because she trusts his loyalty to their people. Even though it looks like he won't help after all.

Moments of Transition: Never back Delenn into a corner! She's so great when she's determined. Even when she surrenders she doesn't back down. Sacrificing herself to save her people without hesitation, and entrusting her legacy to Lennier. (There is an AU where that happens, right?) Shakiri doesn't dare, but Neroon sacrifices himself because he realizes Delenn was right and saves her. I don't like that Neroon converts to the religious caste before he dies, it makes the warriors look worse, but it needed to happen so that Delenn will have the authority to rebuild the Grey Council. Five seats worker caste, good idea. True, we've almost never heard of them.
Before that: Uh, Neroon, those seem like fairly fundamentally different worldviews that you and Shakiri have, and you never noticed that before? Okay.
I like how Delenn points out that Valen, on whose teachings so much of their beliefs are built, was Sinclair, and he didn't know what would happen after he traveled to the past.
Apparently Delenn can now speak for the entire religious caste - how and why? She doesn't even lead her clan. It probably has something to do with her being a former Grey Council member, and she's also respected as Dukat's Chosen (maybe even as an ambassador but that doesn't seem to matter so much.)
Poor Lyta :( :( She says she can't find work where she wants to work and trusts people because she's not with the Psi Corps anymore. But the only people who would demand Psi Corps verification are from Earth. She really can't find anyone else to work for, on Babylon 5? She might not prefer it, but she should at least be able to find alien employ. And it's cold of Sheridan and the command staff to leave her on her own like that, they wouldn't have been able to win the war without her, and as she points out they get paid from the station. But still she's not willing to read someone who doesn't agree, good for her. At least Zack now suspects that Garibaldi isn't in his right mind. Lyta goes to Garibaldi for work, but Edgars orders him not to hire a telepath - who is this guy?
That's another sign that Garibaldi isn't in his right mind: he's so paranoid, he would never agree to work with someone he doesn't know, Edgars and before that the guys in black. He isn't directly controlled, otherwise Bester wouldn't need to provoke him. I suspect it's just a series of pre-programmed directives, but they must be rather strong. He can't be completely aware of why he's doing what he's doing... I'm really curious, I hope we'll find out soon.
They let Bester on the station, just like that? Yes, free station, but he's dangerous and he's more or less an enemy. Last time(s) they at least made sure he was harmless.
Poor Lyta, forced to work for the Psi Corps again :( Of course they want her body after she dies (of natural causes, that was the first clause I thought of) to see what the Vorlons did, but I think that bothers her much less than working for the hated Psi Corps. Ugh, she should have a lot more support.
More civilian targets :( And now they'll more openly against Clark, let's see how that goes.">

This is my favorite slew of eps. Each one is so good, and so much happens. I love Delenn. But I always got the feeling that the Ambassador thing was sort of an afterthought. She wanted to keep an eye on the humans in general and Sinclair specifically, so she made herself an Ambassador (which she could do because she was on the Grey Council.

As for Lyta--saving their bacon doesn't earn her a couple of months free rent? I get that they're crunched for money, but she performed a vital service without which they would have all died horribly.

I love several things about the undercover married thing, but a lot of it is that they play it for laughs but the humor isn't "haha gay how gross and absurd!" but "haha odd couple they would drive each other nuts!"

I love the way Marcus handles this. And the look on Franklin's face! Hee!

Ivanova makes everything 3000% better, this is empirical fact.
