Penguins with skates

schneefinkHave some hockey thoughts, because I have several Pens WIPs and haven't made much progress with any of them today.
Flower got an extension! Four more years of my favorite goalie with my favorite team. Okay, 5.750k might be a bit high for him, I was hoping for the same cap hit, but it's not too bad. (It's only bad in combination with the Scuderi contract, 3.375k for a third-pairing D-man with so many excellent D prospects is a giant waste and we need that capspace for a winger. Shero what were you thinking.)
6-game win streak! Still I'm not completely happy with the team. I know it's complaining on a high level, but I'm not satisfied with the current roster. The Pens currently lead the league in PDO (105.5 in all situations, 104.8 5v5), and even though they are usually a bit over 100 that is likely going to regress, and they are also currently not having the most challenging schedule.
I don't think Rutherford improved the bottom six at all, just replaced the players who left. Our fourth line is a disaster, poor Goc stuck between Adams and Sill.
Malkin's line isn't working. Poor Geno: for a short while he had two great wingers in Neal and Jokinen, and now he's back to two that should be playing in the bottom six while Sid got both Hornqvist and Kuni. They got Hornqvist for Neal, but haven't really addressed the loss of Jokinen.
I also wish they kept Stempniak and got draft picks instead of Spaling: Stempniak is cheaper and imo just as good.
I wonder what will happen with the line combinations when Bennett gets back? He played well with Sutter, possibly better than he ever did with Sid and Geno.
We still have a logjam on D: seven good defensemen, one on IR, and two definitely and another two probably NHL-ready d-men in WBS. Kind of a waste. (Scuds! Shero! *shakes fist*) I'm betting that at least one of the young ones gets traded this year to get a winger, but I'm not sure who. Maatta stays, of course. I think I'd be least sad about Dumoulin or Samuelsson leaving.
The special teams are a thing of beauty. The PP is just weird: Improbably high success rate, yet sometimes it looks soo bad...
Tonight another game vs. Buffalo, biggest danger is to be overconfident. (Otoh, it's Buffalo...) I won't be watching because I have self-control *nods*
On the RPF side, research for fic is annoying: "I know I've read something about that somewhere, in an article on some blog or website", ugh.
