Clone Wars: Rako Hardeen
Jul. 13th, 2015 11:48 amI woke up because of a nightmare today, fortunately in the very early morning and not in the middle of the night. Usually I like to remember my dreams and try my best to recall them, so this one has been hard to shake. It did have some cool elements: I was part of a special operations group with superpowers. I was fast, had fighting skills, could make myself less noticeable, and I could switch objects with each other and/or keep them in "limbo" for a brief period of time, which was especially useful because the bad guys were among other things after a special rock. Unfortunately after some sneaking around eventually we fought against a group of human-looking demons who were impossible to kill. We put a trident through spine and lungs of one of them and broke her neck and she still got up again. They were pretty scary, and I couldn't even kill them when I started to realize that I was dreaming.
More Clone Wars season 4. It's the hockey offseason and I thought I would probably get into something new during the summer, but I didn't expect Star Wars. I'm not even sure how much I really like Star Wars! But it's fascinating.
A Friend in Need:
- Ahsoka just endangered official peace negotiations for one boy. I can understand the impulse, but diplomatically it's a potential disaster.
She also thinks that there's only either the Republic or the Separatists, no alternative. That's sad. (There are at least a few systems still neutral!) She also seems to believe completely in the Republic, even though at this point only an idiot could miss that it has its troubles and even if not bureaucracy can be harsh… It's understandable that she wants to hope, and she is just a teenager. (Maybe fifteen? Do we know?)
- Here we have battle droids whose use for target practice is being framed as torture, who beg R2D2 to reassemble them, then call him their friend and act in gratitude. That's not the act of a mindless machine, dammit!
The "Rako Hardeen" episodes:
- Obi-Wan thinks there's no way Anakin can sense that he's not dead, while Yoda worries that Anakin will sense something's not right. After fighting "Hardeen" Anakin says he "felt a connection" and that he now knows Obi-Wan is still alive.
In general in canon Jedi seem to be able to "sense" a lot less than in many fics.
- That face transformation and voice modulator tech – whut? How's that supposed to work, nanites?
Shaved Obi-Wan xD
Later there are "shadow holograms" - there's no way to scan for them, really?
- It's less clear in the movies because there's little time, but Palpatine had the opportunity to manipulate Anakin for a long time, and he's an expert in it. Very creepy.
- Ouch, poor 201st on finding out their general died. Rex knows where Anakin went and tries to lie to Windu about it, yep he's loyal.
- Sooo… what if Anakin had killed "Hardeen"? Would Mace and Yoda have told him that it was Obi-Wan – probably not, they know it would have destroyed him. Anakin wouldn't have noticed: I don't think the face transformation technology reverts after death, and he would think the sudden sense of loss was connected to revenge. Mace and Yoda would want to discipline him severely without being able to tell him why. Palpatine wouldn't know the truth either, at least that's something.
If this is a horror story Anakin eventually finds out the truth. If he doesn't, or if he never finds proof, that's still tragic enough.
It could be a very good fic, but I don't think I can write anything this dark. It wouldn't even need to be long: one scene with Anakin killing "Hardeen", one when he returns to Coruscant and faces Mace and Yoda, a short one with Ahsoka, one with Palpatine (tries to get him to admit revenge felt good, Anakin tries to remember how it felt and feels uneasy)…
- the "Box" is ridiculously overcomplicated and a waste of resources. Whatever. "Hardeen" and Cad Bane working together is fun. Or "Hardeen" constantly helping the others, especially Bane, and Bane being suspicious of his motives, until Bane sort of reluctantly saves him from being dishonorably killed by Eval. Nice. I'd read fic where they have longer adventures together, preferably from Bane's PoV.
Since when is Obi-Wan a sniper? The Force is pretty useful.
- Yoda basically told Anakin to his face that he wasn't told because he's unpredictable, i.e. untrustworthy. Ouch.
Later Obi-Wan tells Anakin it was his idea, because he knew Anakin's reaction would convince Dooku. Of course Anakin focuses on the fact that Obi-Wan lied to him, so how can he trust him again? What other lies has he been told? Ouch.
Which Palpatine manages to exploit expertly: "Interesting. I thought the Jedi always worked as a team." His skill at manipulating people is extremely impressive.
"As long as I live no harm shall ever come to you, Your Excellency."
"Well, here's to your long and prosperous life, Anakin. One shudders to think where the galaxy would be without the Jedi."
EVIL.
- My guess is Sidious planned an early version of what we see at the beginning of RotS. It also had an Anakin-Dooku duel, and this time it was already closer than what we saw in AotC.
If Obi-Wan had died that plan would have succeeded. Palpatine would have disappeared for a while and the Republic would be in chaos. Then Palpatine would engineer a situation where Anakin comes to rescue him, killing Dooku in the process, like in RotS.
