My very favorite thing about the series is Dutch and Johnny, BFFs. At their first meeting she shot him because he was trying to steal her ship, they become partners, and six years later they're inseparable. He considers her his sister, she calls him irreplaceable and says she loves him (but you're an idiot), they would both do stupid things for each other. He tells her bedtime stories <3
Ahh, the comics scene is SO GREAT; I love it so much! But, yeah -- all of these two.
"Come the Rain" was a great Johnny episode. I love the mix between badass and vulnerable that both of them have.
Come The Rain was the episode that made me fist-pump and think, Yes, Yes, This Is A Show Of Mine.
Most of the series was so good about gender stuff that the few times I did notice something it was an unpleasant surprise
True -- I do like that the pilot highlights sexist assumptions; it's a bit like BtVS that way, with the key scene of Darla and the high school boy. But Johnny's statement was silly -- of course he can and will need to hit women, depending on the situation. The Level Six statement I don't view as problematic: He's an antagonist, and we're not meant to agree with him.
