Pens season opener, Toby Daye #9

schneefinkI watched the first two periods of the Penguins-Stars game yesterday. (The stream sucked & for the first time I'm considering a paid option. Not sure it'll be worth it though because I watch live games so rarely. Maybe once I have a job.)
The game was fun! Mostly, except the goals against, and some stupid mistakes. Checking Twitter during the game was definitely a mistake, it's like an echo chamber for everything negative. I enjoy complaining about things/players during games too, just for me or with a friend, but on Twitter it's just too much pessimism, even when I technically agree with almost everything people are saying.
The game started at 2:30 am and I had to get up today at 7am for a debating workshop with school students. I was planning to sleep yesterday afternoon, but then I read A Red-Rose Chain instead because I'm weak. The new plan is to sleep now, because (if I can reach AV – pick up your phone, dammit) we're planning to finally watch Bab5 again tonight!
A Red-Rose Chain:
Politics! Finally! Toby is learning a little, very nice, and I liked the reminders that as a king Tybalt also knows something about politics. More deposing royalty, very nice *g* Wow, King Rhys was a bigoted asshole. I was surprised that his and the false Queen's different opinions on what Toby did to her didn't come up sooner, of course he'd see it as purification.
I felt sorry for Arden. No wonder she's overwhelmed, from the few nobles Toby has mentioned she doesn't even seem to have a proper advisory council, and Madden as her seneschal is nice but he doesn't have the political experience either. Now not only will Madden wake up again but also Nolan, that will immediately make things much better for her.
Toby's powers are worth a lot, politically. Maybe King Jorgeil would have decided to help them anyway, but her pledge definitely helped, and he can't be the only one with similar wishes. Once word gets around she'll be busy.
Toby took May with her! Or, May refused to stay behind. Finally! I was wondering why May stayed behind so often. She may not love fighting, but she's also brave and determined to protect her own, and she's almost impossible to kill, which is a bonus.
Speaking of indestructible, Toby's healing is getting a bit ridiculous. A few minutes after being tortured and stabbed in the heart (!) she's up and chasing after a bad guy again. Good for her, but by now basically plot armor and I'm not a fan. At least this time she ate sometimes.
Walther figured out a way to cure elf-shot! I figured it was coming eventually, nice that it happened to soon. He'll become famous ^^ and hopefully get tenure. Yay for casually trans characters, I wonder if he used alchemy somehow or asked the Luidaeg for a spell.
Hm, so in addition to the Yates royal family in Silences, and Madden and Nolan, Raysel and Simon will presumably be woken up. Simon is still under Eira's geas, but he already attacked her once. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to kill her next, Oberon's law be damned. Raysel's relationship with her parents will be… interesting.
Quentin and Dean, nice detail ^^ First Raj, now Dean – his friends/(ex)boyfriends will grow up to become powerful political allies one day. One day: I'm not sure if Toby was joking when she insinuated that his coming of age would be at thirty, but definitely not at 18. Is that when he'll become a knight? Or does Toby decide that? In the latter case it's entirely possible that she'd just forget, and Quentin would "forget" to remind her, until someone, probably Sylvester, eventually politely mentions it.

Date: 2015-10-13 11:28 pm (UTC)I did stay up on thursday, cause I knew I was going to call in sick, and of course it's the game where they dropped a +3 advantage in the third. Ahhhhgh. And I slept though sat when they manage to win.
I miss worlds, the evening matches were a good time for me.
