Hockey-related anger

Good things about last night's PIT-CBJ game: Flower was amazing as usual, and Geno scored a pretty PP goal.
Bad things: FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT BRANDON DUBINSKY
I fucking hate that guy.
He got away with dirty hits to Sid so often so now he fucking crosschecked him into the neck so hard his stick broke and then hit him again in the kidneys while Sid is down on the ice in pain. What the fuck. He better get a long suspension for this – though with the history of the league not doing anything about anything happening to Sid (Dubinsky, Marc fucking Staal, etc.) probably just two games or something like that.
And then of course CBJ won that stupid game.
Other dirty things happening yesterday, Beleskey's hit on Stepan. I don't care if Stepan should have been prepared, it was a really late hit and it should NOT have happened, and the worst thing is that if Stepan hadn't been injured probably nobody would have looked twice at it because things like that happen so often. Why do we have a fucking rule book if the refs don't call it.

Date: 2015-11-28 05:02 pm (UTC)I know the rivalry has been big here, just because Penguin fans are generally known to be mean fucking pricks to CBJ fans. It's not so much a "we hate the team" as "we hate the fans and Sidney is overrated."
(Note: Not saying you are being an asshole. There are plenty of decent fans out there. It's just that those aren't the people that go to the games.)
But I don't give enough of a shit to hate people in general, much less hate people over a sport. The only teams I hate seeing winning are the OSU football team and the Red Wings -- but I only care about the Dead Things when they're playing the Jackets. I don't have enough fucks to give if they're playing someone else. XD

Date: 2015-11-28 07:52 pm (UTC)Sports emotions are funny. I can go from saying "I fucking hate the Flyers/Rangers/etc.", meaning every word of it, to reasonable discussions and acknowledgement that they're just a team like any other, that neither the team nor the fans are objectively worse than mine, and every team/fanbase has a few morons, in two minutes. Sometimes I can even do both at the same time!
It's a weird kind of... almost manufactured emotion, sometimes. Like, I'm taking it seriously and not seriously at the same time. But for that it can also be very hard to control.
What I hate are fanbase generalizations. "Fans of team X are stupid/mean/all support their dirty players" - no they don't. Which team you are a fan of is in the majority of cases a coincidence, and it doesn't make you a better or worse person.
I wasn't a big sports fan until I got into hockey a few years ago (well maybe when I was a kid and into alpine skiing and ski jumping) and it's still a bit weird sometimes!

Date: 2015-11-28 08:04 pm (UTC)I'm not saying that ALL Pens fans are assholes. I'm just saying that is the type of fan that Kat sees most often when she's downtown for a game. Of course, being a CBJ fan, she may have confirmation bias going on, too. So... -shrugs-
My interest in sports goes as far as "Did the Jackets score 2 points last night?" because one of my fave pizza places has half off all large pizzas the day after a 2-goal game, regardless of whether the Jackets win or lose. :P
