SGA 3x01 No Man's Land

schneefinkIt's raining outside. No, I don't have a better excuse. But I will go explore the city in the afternoon!
Looking at my reviews, "Allies" was one of my favorite episodes (it's fun to read them again later, when I only remember parts of the actual episode), so I didn't expect the second part to be as good. I like surprises!
Whee, spacefight. I love that the other pilot is a woman (and what does it say about television that I was surprised by that) and that she doesn't get blown up. Is there more information/fic about her?
Caldwell! His reaction to John's apparent death, and later, Caldwell and Elizabeth. Great scene. He has a point, but then Elizabeth explains that it's about Earth. Still Caldwell doesn't want to sacrifice his crew, because he cares for them and he knows how scary it is to be on a ship about to be destroyed in space. So it is Elizabeth advocating the good of the many (she is great here, calm, collected, Radek, too, and Teyla here to give her strength) and Caldwell who doesn't want to sacrifice the few. "Do you know what you're asking me to do?" Great.
Ouch, Rodney. Responsible for the destruction of his whole planet... and Ronon is not very helpful, heh.
John in the Jumper thinking back to Rodney and Radek is so cute. ♥ "I have to pay more attention to those guys." The scene is so cute I don't even mind him staring at a female scientist in the cafeteria - does he ever go on dates? Did anyone write that?
The queen calls him "Michael", too - one very effective word. He's not very respectful, is he? And she doesn't see him as a threat at all, queen arrogance. No wonder he later likes to kill them.
I can never keep track of how many ZPMs they have, but apparently it's enough for multiple dial-outs to Earth without a problem. The IOC wants the leader of Atlantis to brief them in person, just because? At least Landry and Elizabeth agree. But Landry is a politician, too, and he knows exactly what to say.
Elizabeth and Teyla - how are there not more stories with those two? Femslash or friendship, I think I've read even less friendship stories. So sad. They are wonderful together here.

I like Landry here (and I don't like him very often), he empathizes with Elizabeth while following orders. "They're bureaucrats. You'll have them for breakfast."
Rodney and fairies, heh. And Ronon.
"Okay. Time to do some damage." Very risky. And Michael - no wonder he switches side, the way the other Wraith treat him! This is gonna be interesting. Go, John, tell Michael that you're on a deadline.
Elizabeth vs. IOA - Woolsey! And he's the reasonable one! Excellent. Wasn't the Asian woman - Shen something? - a rival for Woolsey in season 5? Woolsey's development throughout SG-1 and SGA was very well done. I think he clearly respects Elizabeth.
Rodney and Ronon! ♥ Fatalistic Rodney, poor Ronon. "Make me." xD
"Only if you're gonna put and end to all this 'we're gonna die, there is no hope' talk." "Well now there is hope." Yes!
"Now what?" "You said no more death talk."
"You'll think of something."
I already liked Rodney&Ronon friendship/interaction before I saw this scene, I didn't know there was so much canon for it.
Caldwell and Lorne - Lorne looks very casual on that captain's chair. I'm already sad because I know what's going to happen to the Orion.
"It'll be a walk in the park. ...a very scary park, filled with monsters who are trying to kill me." "I don't understand." xD
"Operation 'this will most likely end badly' is a go."
Wow, those darts to respond very quickly. Are the Wraith all sitting around in their darts, twiddling their thumbs and waiting for something to shoot at?
Go, Elizabeth! Dealing with bureaucrats is what she can do best (or, to be more accurate, what the writers can write best.)

Space battle! Poor Lorne and Zelenka.
John, Michael, Rodney and Ronon, uh-oh. Michael should've known "because I'm trusting you" wouldn't work with Ronon ^^ "Because I said so" is much better.
"Yeah, I get it, you hate the Wraith." "Him in particular." I just can't stop quoting! Another very nice team interaction scene.
Wait, how did they beam them out of the Wraith transport? They don't all have transmitters. Does the life signs detection system work that well over long distance, even though Hermiod directed all power away from non-critical systems?
John just takes over the station of another guy, why doesn't that surprise me.
More Rodney talking about death, poor Ronon.
Geeks! Rodney and Radek, they are so great together, but where's Hermiod? Oh, and there's Novak. Of course Rodney immediately requests Sheppard specifically.
Um, and btw, where are the remaining darts? The second Hive was just disabled, not destroyed, they might have some darts left? Even if they were destroyed there should be darts flying around (except, how much oxygen reserve does one dart have?)

Awww, Elizabeth and Landry. Another wonderful warm scene.
So now John is giving the commands? Let's just say he forgot to ask Caldwell because of low oxygen levels. And how do they know that the Hive still has breathable air, btw? Maybe their weapons disabled their life support, too, and vented the atmosphere, so they would beam into vacuum. Where is Hermiod?
Okay, the amnesiac!human!Wraith are creepy, even more so than the queen.
And I clearly read too many slash stories when my reaction to Lorne calling Rodney by his first name and Rodney helping him up immediately made me think of all Lorne/Rodney stories I have read *facepalm*
Sadly, I think I have read more Lorne/Rodney slash stories than friendship. :(
Great episode! I really enjoyed it, there was nothing too obviously stupid, it had many great lines and wonderful character & character interaction moments.
(Not very optimistic for the next one, though.)
