Tiredness is not really an emotion
Dec. 29th, 2015 11:47 pmI backed up my hard drive today. I realized the last time I did it was over a year ago and retroactively panicked, thank god nothing happened. I keep telling myself to do it more often… -> New Year's Resolutions.
I also reduced my open tabs from about 70 to 25, and even further tomorrow. The sweet illusion of productivity. I'm determined to do a lot of work for uni in January, I have two days left with less stress (and then panic.)
On the weekend I watched "Minions" with LB. I didn't like it very much: I enjoy watching competent people, and that was pretty much the exact opposite. It had a few funny scenes, but overall I didn't think it was very good.
Then today, on a rec from our parents, LB and I watched "Inside Out", and we both loved it. It's touching, funny, and interesting. It had several scenes that I felt like I recognized (that dark cloud over the console where none of the emotions can get through, ouch), and I teared up when Riley came back home.
Many parents were there with their primary school kids who were too young to get the movie and were bored halfway through, shame.
LB said the morale of the story is clearly to have enough imaginary friends. I have that covered if fictional friends that I always knew don't exist count.
I explained to him why I laughed when I saw the Foghorn's logo. LB: "There was a hockey team called the Mighty Ducks. Give me a minute, I need to process this." xD
Things I'm still figuring out: grocery shopping. Half the time I forget things because I forgot to put them on the list, and half the time I come home with a lot more than I planned because it looked so good, like fruits and fresh juice and chocolate. The nectarine wasn't even good :(
I have a list of Yuletide stories to rec and a longer list of Yuletide stories still to read, but I don't know when I'll have time to actually make a rec list. It might be later than usual because of my busy January, but I'll get around to it eventually. I'd also like to write a fic for
fandom_stocking, I have a crossover idea I like, but I doubt I'll find the time. It would be fun though. …would anyone familiar with Doctor Who be willing to help?

Date: 2015-12-30 01:07 pm (UTC)(Current minor problem, the person whose prompt I'm interested in prefers the Ninth Doctor, but the Twelfth is the only one I could currently write with any degree of confidence and I don't have time for canon review. I'll see.)

Date: 2015-12-30 01:05 pm (UTC)It's not really a problem, I'm still well within the bounds of my grocery budget, but sometimes I buy good things and then forget to actually eat them before they go bad -.-

Date: 2015-12-30 01:04 pm (UTC)...sorry, hanging out with kids leaves me with a lot of thoughts about stuff aimed at kids. But Inside Out! SO GOOD. I totally loved it, so I'm glad you liked it too. ♥

Date: 2015-12-30 01:28 pm (UTC)The minions being male didn't bother me because I didn't like them much ^^ I found the recent discussions about whether Star Wars droids are male or female simultaneously funny and interesting. In languages that have ungendered pronouns, are the droids male too? Next time I watch TFA I want to pay attention to who addresses BB-8 how and then write fic where everybody who doesn't do otherwise in canon thinks of BB-8 as female. And have Rey and Finn think of R2D2 as female.
I did like Scarlet Overkill! Her husband too, happy supervillain marriages are great. I wanted her to win! Though really if getting the crown is your big dream, do it yourself instead of getting new henchmen to do it for you.
Inside Out is so smart! I loved that moment near the end that shows that most if not all her new core emotions now have at least two colors, part of growing up. (Joy and anger for hockey *g*) I expected the puberty warning lamp to light up at the end of the credits, but apparently that's a bit later.

Date: 2015-12-30 02:21 pm (UTC)I was bothered by the fact that the kids were picking Minions to be (because they like them), and my nice has to be either Bob, Kevin or Stuart. :/
I haven't seen the discussion about the droids, but that's a good point! Hmmm.
Inside Out seriously made me cry. If it hadn't come out the same year as Fury Road and The Force Awakens, it would've definitely been my top choice.

Date: 2015-12-30 03:08 pm (UTC)It was a good year for movies! Age of Ultron wasn't that great, but otherwise there were many that positively surprised me, and some I haven't even watched yet.
