I backed up my hard drive today. I realized the last time I did it was over a year ago and retroactively panicked, thank god nothing happened. I keep telling myself to do it more often… -> New Year's Resolutions.
I also reduced my open tabs from about 70 to 25, and even further tomorrow. The sweet illusion of productivity. I'm determined to do a lot of work for uni in January, I have two days left with less stress (and then panic.)

On the weekend I watched "Minions" with LB. I didn't like it very much: I enjoy watching competent people, and that was pretty much the exact opposite. It had a few funny scenes, but overall I didn't think it was very good.

Then today, on a rec from our parents, LB and I watched "Inside Out", and we both loved it. It's touching, funny, and interesting. It had several scenes that I felt like I recognized (that dark cloud over the console where none of the emotions can get through, ouch), and I teared up when Riley came back home.
Many parents were there with their primary school kids who were too young to get the movie and were bored halfway through, shame.
LB said the morale of the story is clearly to have enough imaginary friends. I have that covered if fictional friends that I always knew don't exist count.
I explained to him why I laughed when I saw the Foghorn's logo. LB: "There was a hockey team called the Mighty Ducks. Give me a minute, I need to process this." xD

Things I'm still figuring out: grocery shopping. Half the time I forget things because I forgot to put them on the list, and half the time I come home with a lot more than I planned because it looked so good, like fruits and fresh juice and chocolate. The nectarine wasn't even good :(

I have a list of Yuletide stories to rec and a longer list of Yuletide stories still to read, but I don't know when I'll have time to actually make a rec list. It might be later than usual because of my busy January, but I'll get around to it eventually. I'd also like to write a fic for [community profile] fandom_stocking, I have a crossover idea I like, but I doubt I'll find the time. It would be fun though. …would anyone familiar with Doctor Who be willing to help?

Glad you liked Inside Out! I also want to try and produce something, so if you want someone to bounce ideas off I'm always game! I watched 9 and 10 and 3 completely and parts of 4 and 11.

No problem! I know some dedicated old!who fans who could probably crowd source this and correct any errors we make. And in any case, canon is flexible, so there's actually no way to strictly adhere to it!

I'm on my phone so I don't have the URL, but there's an excellent Doctor Who wiki that includes a lot of the supplementary canon, too. I've found it really helpful for fic writing on a deadline.

One very good piece of advice that I got in regards to grocery shopping is never to go when you're hungry. If you're shopping for the evening's dinner, try to have a light snack before you go (even just crackers or a piece of cheese or something), because it really helps to keep everything from looking so tantalizing. Doing this also meant I was always sure to keep (healthy) snacks on hand, like fruit and cheese and granola bars.

I watched Minions with my sister-in-law's two kids, 7 & 9, and it's a huge hit with them. I think it's probably funnier if you're into the falling over and bumbling around sort of comedy, but I quite enjoyed all those little moments they put in for the adults (the minions arrive in NYC in 1968 searching for the biggest baddie to follow and there's a HUGE POSTER of Nixon - the kids had no idea why that made me laugh). I dislike the fact that the Minions are 1) gendered and 2) gendered MALE specifically. Like... why?? They're not even vaguely humanoid?? Ugh. But at least the Best Supervillain was a woman, which I... liked? Although I felt they made much too big a deal of GASP SHE IS A LADY HOW CAN SHE EVIL?!

...sorry, hanging out with kids leaves me with a lot of thoughts about stuff aimed at kids. But Inside Out! SO GOOD. I totally loved it, so I'm glad you liked it too. ♥

Hahaha, YES. I would've watched that!

I was bothered by the fact that the kids were picking Minions to be (because they like them), and my nice has to be either Bob, Kevin or Stuart. :/

I haven't seen the discussion about the droids, but that's a good point! Hmmm.

Inside Out seriously made me cry. If it hadn't come out the same year as Fury Road and The Force Awakens, it would've definitely been my top choice.
