Ah. Our library network has the best request/hold system -- look for something online, request it for free, wait for a text message on my mobile to say it's arrived at my local library -- which makes it far more convenient. Plus, they're very good at buying new DVDs (which I use them for mostly - yay free entertainment and recent blockbusters, as long as you don't mind requesting something and occasionally waiting a few months for it to come) and they have a "suggest a purchase" on their online catalogue (they bought one of the Castle tie-in novels for me!).
If it's part of a local network, it might be worth checking if they have a hold system so you can get books/DVDs/etc at a local convenient library.
