Every time I get into a new fandom I'm a bit worried about annoying everyone with how much I talk about it, on- and offline. By now, after several years, I assume everyone got used to me talking about hockey a lot. Now I've started talking about D&D a lot - I've already explained the game to my mom, told LB and DD about my odd familiars, and I enjoy making "best of last week" posts on DW. Another fandom of a type I'm unfamiliar with, but I'll figure it out.

Things that happened last D&D session:
- Both my familiars are kinda dicks, not to me but to my party members. (That happens when the DM rolls a neutral evil alignment for both.) I was happy that my character doesn't need to eat, makes the supply question easier – except it turns out that my gem scarab is hungry all the time, and when he's hungry he tries to trick other party members into slaying ogres for him to eat. He got the second familiar to help him even though they can't talk directly with each other, and since he can't talk to other party members he figured out a way to write a message instead. I was almost proud of him.
(My hedgehog-sized beetle familiar wants to eat ogres, plural. If that indicates growth speed, whoa.)
- Yesterday our party mostly miserably failed at alchemy, avoided a fight with a knight who almost definitely was much too strong for us (our DM was disappointed), found our own corpses, and naively knocked on the door of a dwarven settlement, where they welcomed us and we realized too late that a) all the dwarves seem to be undead, and b) they don't seem to want us to leave. Ever.
Then during the night a few party members suddenly found themselves in a giant dark hall. Including me, not including my familiars. This "causality what causality" thing sucks. (Also I want it on the record that it was our DM's idea to split the party.)
- Completely by accident a party member found out that the NPC currently travelling with us, who was reincarnated with the help of our druid, is actually a dragon. Yep, a dragon. That time our DM laughed because after the reincarnation spell he rolled "dragon", but didn't want to do it and made her human instead – yep, dragon. Never underestimate the DM. He gave us the magical item we needed to discover the illusion just an hour before that, nice coincidence, otherwise it would probably have taken us even longer to find out.
…we made full-plate dragon-scale armor for a dragon *facepalm*
- For some variety, our DM gave us a puzzle to solve to get out of a trap minefield. We failed miserably :( Even after we got hints, because we rolled for intelligence and argued that our characters were smarter than us. Of course in the end, when the DM told us the solution after we beat it by brute force, it turned out to be simple. That was at the end of a long session and unfortunately a bit of a frustrating ending to an otherwise great evening.
- I leveled up! On the one hand, great, on the other hand I already dread having to pick out new spells. Always so many difficult choices. At least I finally made some small progress with finding prestige classes.
- So far I always borrowed our DM's dice (very pretty transparent once with kind of rainbow-y glitter), yesterday I ordered my first own set. Really looking forward to using them.
- AV made a great dinner and our DM made peach tiramisu. Yum.

Tomorrow I'm going on vacation visiting my grandparents for a week with LB. We'd talked about it for a while but never specified a date because LB's summer plans were so fluid, so when he called me on Friday (right after I came back from grocery shopping) and suggested next week, it was a surprise. I'm looking forward to seeing my relatives, but I don't think I'll stay long because I currently feel comfortable in Vienna and like there's a lot of stuff I want to do here. How is it already the middle of July? Weird.
