My expectations for last session: one or two more battles in the training module, then we go to the library. None of that happened. Instead there were demons, and, uh, some inadvisable actions were taken.
- We discovered the locked magical laboratory of my future self and looked inside: Future Me wasn't there, but there was a malfunctioning rune circle connecting to the Abyss. One creature from there wanted my character to free her from the room. She had several spell books and threatened to destroy them if left alone, and I'm hungry for knowledge... I was warned she was dangerous, but I failed every. single. Sense Motive check in spectacular manner. When she said she wouldn't harm me or my friends, I rolled a one. When another PC tried to hold me back, I rolled an 18 strength check to get free. Soo long story short, my character is now possessed by a succubus, and doesn't even know it. This could end badly.
- That PC, a much more suspicious character, got very angry that his future self, who was supposed to guard that room, didn't stop me from freeing that creature (he doesn't know about the possession either, he thinks she just fled and disappeared.) He got so angry that he attacked and killed his future self, which led to the room collapsing. He then successfully bluffed the rest of the party (who'd been resting in a rope trick during that time) that he had nothing to do with it, nope, not his fault at all.
Fortunately we all survived, the library and the training facility are still standing, and through the collapsed roof we accidentally found a way back to the past. We might still check out the library first before returning, we just have to keep in mind that the enemy army is steadily approaching...
- I already knew my beetle familiar is awesome (can sense magic, can do minor telekinesis etc), but I'd underestimated my undead cat familiar. We knew that everything that dies on this mountain becomes undead, so I thought she was from here. Later we also found out that everything that dies on the mountain can't leave, after that I learned that she can, which made me wonder (still not sure if that was a mistake on the DM's part or something he planned from the start.) I found out she's a different kind of undead, almost 200 years old, she offered to teach me necromancy, and she can walk through solid matter. Very cool.
It was suggested that I try to DM a one-off session. I'd love to try it! Coming up with ideas is not the problem, but most of them are much too long for one evening...

Date: 2016-08-10 07:32 pm (UTC)There are irregular groups that meet once a week in Vienna to play one-offs and that also sometimes offer opportunities for new DMs. I'm planning to go there as soon as the dice I ordered arrive :) Can't borrow everyone else's dice as easily at a table where I don't know anyone.
