Grand Princess Liyang, fuck yeah. I hoped we would see more of her from the first time now-Consort Jing appealed to her. Threatening to kill herself in front of Prince Yu and Marquis Yan to force her husband to let them in, which would mean he would have to stop trying to kill her son, the Zhuos and the others. Putting a dagger to Prince Yu's heart to blackmail him into protecting the Zhuos, no big deal. Begging the Zhuos to treat her daughter well, she always just tried to look out for her children. Trying to persuade her husband, who she was forced to marry so many years ago, to kill himself - I'm not sure how much of what she said about the Xie family honor was sincere, since they have been married for 25 years, and how much was just to persuade him.
And then her daughter Qi died :( At least the grandchild survived.
Poor Jingrui! I'm glad at least Xia Dong called Su Zhe out on using his friend, basically destroying his life, for his own agenda, and later Meng Zhi mentioned it too. Jingrui now knows neither of the two people he has called father is his biological father, that one of them - Xie Yu - tried to kill him as a baby and only kept him alive as a bargaining chip with the other, his future as imagined is in shambles. No wonder he cried. At least he still has his mother, and the Zhuos still seem to consider him a son despite the lack of biological relation. And there is an entire foreign royal family that want him to come to another country, too.
Xie Yu told Xie Bie to go ahead and kill himself, he wouldn't dare anyway, and then ordered him arrested. Ouch.
Both Jingrui and Bie could have been ordered executed because of their father's treason, whew.
I wonder how much Mei Changsu knew about Jingrui's background when he decided to befriend him. Both Jingrui and Yujin turned out to be remarkably useful, in addition to being good friends. I bet at least Jingrui is wondering about that too.
Yujin your dad came for you, silver linings in the whole situation. (Probably Su Zhe informed him out of courtesy that something was going to happen. He didn't expect Xie Yu to call the Capital Guards, he thought Prince Yu's troops would be able to enter, so Marquis Yan wouldn't have been necessary.)
Did Xie Yu really think he could get away with killing General Meng, Xia Dong, Yan Yujin, and the Princess of Southern Chu? Prince Ling was in the building! It might have started a war!
Maybe he was more confident because he knew Xia Jiang would return soon and help him. He even refused to kill himself because he thinks Xia Jing can help him survive. He might even be right about that.
Mama Zhuo is badass. In her world blame is not shifted to the next generation, finally something sensible. She can fight too, of course she can, never underestimate the women. (I wonder if she wants to get revenge on Liyang? Liyang did knowingly allow the Zhuos' son to be assassinated to save her own.)
I hope the Zhuos won't disappear from the narrative now that Zhuo Dingfeng and Zhuo Qingyao and Tianquan Manor aren't working for the Marquis of Ning anymore. There is still the connection with Jingrui. I also hope we get to learn Mama Zhuo's name.
Meng Zhi is just too straightforward and loyal for this twisting and shifty world of court intrigues xD His catch phrase is basically "Did I say something wrong again?" When directed he can be useful with intrigues too, but I'm not surprised Jinghuan is starting to wonder about his closeness with Su Zhe.
Xia Dong, on the other hand, is not amused at all at being used as a pawn, even though she likes Su Zhe for paying respect to her late husband. But that only goes so far. She was reprimanded soon afterwards for not standing by and letting Xie Yu kill all witnesses… As soon as Xie Yu is in prison, the new villain appears. Xia Jiang appears at least as dangerous as Xie Yu, and as a bonus they're in league with each other, of course they are.
It turns out I do have time to watch at least a few episodes while at my grandparents', I just have to deal with my grandmother looking into the room every thirty minutes and disapprovingly asking what I do on the computer "all the time." I really wanted to find out what was going to happen at the party though.
