Writing more of these for me later. I had time today because the furniture moving was easier & faster than anticipated (yay) and too many people cancelled so there was no D&D (boo.)
(I met with CP regardless, we talked, played board games, and watched some videos. I like him as a friend; sometimes I wonder if he's flirting with me and I try not to encourage that, but I'm not sure how clearly. Maybe I shouldn't have visited today, idk.)
They did rescue Wei Zheng! He's not in the clear yet, but still. Hiding in the Mu Residence, very clever. Does that mean Mu Quing was involved? The Yan family also played their parts beautifully, and so did Grand Prince Ji, if unknowingly.
Aand as a result of the whole affair Juanxing Bureau was seized, Jia Xiang and all his disciples imprisoned, and Prince Yu strongly in disfavor. I didn't expect all of that! Strong play by Xia Dong. She gave her shifu yet another chance not to disappoint her, he failed, now she's willing to pay the price to for vengeance for her husband and justice.
I did not expect the firework factory explosion to come up again. This is what happens when you have competent ministers. (Who don't yet know how the Court works, I liked Shen Zhui promising to explain things to a disappointed Cai Quan.) Things look pretty bad for Prince Yu right now. He underestimated the Emperor, though admittedly the Emperor was helped along. Mei Changsu understands how to influence the Emperor better, bad for Prince Yu.
Prince Jing, on the other hand, is in the clear, and he did keep his temper, well done. Except for when Xia Jiang targeted Mei Changsu, he protested and then paced it looks like the whole night. If Meng Zhi does tell Jingyan that Xia Jiang asked if rescuing Wei Zheng was worth sacrificing Mei Changsu, it'll hit Jingyan hard.
Mei Changsu knew about the Wuyin Pill, so surely he was prepared. The red pill he swallowed before the Xuanjing soldiers came for him?
The confrontation between Mei Changsu and Xia Jiang was very cool, from the dramatic beginning with Mei Changsu waiting and then walking through the rows of soldiers, to the (current) ending with Xia Jiang in chains and shouting at him. And in between, Mei Changsu totally physically at his mercy and being an arrogant little shit. In addition to the whole "could kill him immediately" aspect, this is the person responsible for the death of his family, the former Crown Prince, and 70,000 soldiers. Sometimes I have to remind myself that Mei Changsu is also Lin Shu, not factually but from an emotional perspective. This time he brought up the Chiyan case himself, yet Xia Jiang suspected that he was in Prince Qui's household rather than a member of the Chiyan army, interesting. Maybe because he's so smart. Actually swearing his loyalty to Prince Jing *was* Mei Changsu's reason to come to the capital, pretty much.
Of course Fei Liu was watching over Su-gege even in prison, for a moment I almost forgot. As if Juanxing Bureau could stop Fei Liu.
Consort Jing! She suspected xiao-Xin and set up a trap exposing her and that also proved her loyalty to the Emperor, rather than the opposite. She offered Xin mercy in exchange for Xin helping her restore Mei Changsu/Lin Shu's reputation in Jingyan's eyes because she knows it's important. Xin realizes that Consort Jing was the one who influenced the Emperor's sleeping patterns and dreams to lead him to order her to erect a memorial for Consort Chen. Consort Jing is even smarter than I thought.
That we see how much influence and importance Consort Jing, and the other wives, hold makes it strange that we haven't even seen Jingyan's concubine yet. Does she even live with him? Where else would she live though? I think she's been mentioned twice or so, that seems like an oversight from a tactical position alone. At least we've seen Prince Yu's consort now.
Hopefully soon, more h/c aftermath of Mei Changsu's time as Xia Jiang's prisoner, mm yes.
