Book: The Will of the Empress
Oct. 25th, 2013 11:07 pm"The Will of the Empress", also called "The Circle Reforged", by Tamora Pierce is the latest Emelan book that I read. The four kids finally reunite! Though they're not kids anymore.
Just for my own reference, because translating the names of the months gets confusing: Daja comes home in October 1041 when they´re sixteen, Tris in June 1042, Briar in February 1043, and in March 1043 they travel to Namorn. Briar was away for four years! And his sisters have already lived together for months. Awww, they'll all live together.
I was sad that it took them so long to open up to each other again, especially Daja and Sandry, but they're both stubborn and I imagine they had many opportunities to avoid each other when they wanted to. Thinking about them living together for months without really talking: :( But in the end they actually talked! Whee! It'll help all of them heal. And they'll do incredible things.
I liked the romance subplots, to my surprise. Daja and Rizu were sweet. Sandry and her almost unwilling crush on Shan and then her fury when he didn't accept her rejection was also imo well done, especially considering she never really had a crush or romance before. Briar the flirt worked well, also his differentiation between women he flirts (and sleeps) with, women he worships, and theoretical people he would bring home to meet his family. Also, confirmation of bisexual!Rosethorn, yay.
Empress Berenene makes a good not-completely-evil villain, and the similarities between her and Sandry-if-she-didn't-have-her-siblings are at times amusing.
There are still two novels I haven't read yet, Melting Stones and Battle Magic, but the plot of Battle Magic is mostly known and Melting Stones is mostly about Rosethorn and Evvy, so I'm not too afraid of spoilers. A new Tris-centric book will apparently come out in 2014, yay!
Next step: Look for fanworks ;)
