Love is All You Need to Destroy Your Enemies by shadydave(Welcome to Night Vale/Dresden Files)
Carlos Ramirez/Cecil Palmer, 222k
Summary: There are a few things that Carlos may have neglected to tell Cecil.
Like his last name.
Or how he hasn’t actually dated anyone since his junior year of high school.
Or that he’s a wizard of the White Council and the regional commander of Wardens in the western United States and not, in fact, a scientist.
You know. Minor details.
Why I loved it: This is like the best Dresden Files fic and the best Welcome to Night Vale fic I ever read, combined. The crossover is perfect - it works so well!! Definitely my new headcanon. The plot is great, and the relationship is fantastic. All the canon characters are really well portrayed, the original characters are excellent, and there are some great lines that I don't have the time to go back and look for right now because did I mention the story is 222.5k words long? It's all story too and not padding, the pacing is very good.
I occasionally get confused by complicated time travel plots (show me someone who didn't get confused by Homestuck, just saying) and this fic had a good balance of "things I can figure out while reading" and a bit of "things I don't completely get right now but it doesn't hinder my enjoyment of the story." I think/hope I mostly kept track of things, for details I'd definitely need a diagram.

J'attendrai by Quasar (Rivers of London)
Peter Grant/Thomas Nightingale, 60k
Summary: Probationary Constable Peter Grant met me for the first time when I walked up to him by the portico of the Actors' Church on a freezing winter night and said, "Hello. What are you up to?" However, I first met Detective Sergeant Peter Grant when he jogged up to my doorstep on a mild autumn afternoon and said, "There you are, sir. It is you, isn't it?"
Why I liked it: I don't know the "Rivers of London" books (I tried, but found the first book very boring), but nevertheless I enjoyed this fic a lot. The time travel is simpler than in the fic recced above, but very effectively done. The pacing and slow reveal worked very well for me.

LB called today, indignant that the US custom of dressing up for Halloween in whatever people want is invading Vienna. Halloween is for spooky costumes, not for "a bee. Not even a zombie bee, or a vampire bee, just a normal bee! That's wrong." Poor Americans don't have Fasching, but here they have no excuse. Most of my friends aren't big fans of Halloween either way, and neither am I. Though I enjoy seeing the creative costumes some people came up with, it's like "cosplay for everyone" day.
