sea shells
I just recently reread the "Gardener's Hand" trilogy in which there is a city (Laalvur) that semi-regularly experiences tsunamis and that has a saying "shell collectors make bone offerings," that a) sounds cool and b) makes me think of sea witches.
Also, "she sells sea shells…" was one of the first tongue twisters I learned in Ireland and I was very proud when I got better at it than some of the native kids.
I used to take home one or two of my favorite sea shells from our vacations when I was a kid, but I don't think I kept any of them.
dinosaurs
Dinosaurs! Like many children LB and I had a dinosaur phase. We were experts. There was a dinosaur park not too far away where we went with our family a few times and it was always very exciting, plus of course there were books we read and documentaries we watched a lot, and the dinosaur part of "Fantasia."
wingfic
I like wingfic because flying is very cool, and it also has very nice h/c potential; but some SGA fic I read went quite far into the body horror direction and it was harder to enjoy it after that. I still like winged creatures a lot, like the Raksura, and I debated making my new D&D character have wings, probably a Raptoran (but decided against it because it wouldn't work that well with the fighting style I envisioned.)
