Bright Sessions 46-48

New Bright Sessions episode! It's not always the easiest story to listen to, and I avoid it when I'm in a bad mood, but it's also really good. Someone on ff_a put it pretty well, imo: "The way she writes Damien, Mark/Damien, Wadsworth and Joan, it's all so, how do I describe it. Incisive? Like there's such awareness of all the ways that things are dysfunctional and toxic and wrong, and it's written without a drop of apologism, so then when she does just explore in depth all the delightfully iddy aspects of these characters and relationships, it doesn't feel like she's actually romanticizing anything. My id gets so, so piqued and indulged, but my brain and heart don't get skeeved out and actually appreciate how the writing doesn't encourage any of the fucked up my id hungers for." And thankfully not all relationships are fucked up, imo there's overall a good balance of fucked up stuff and WAFF.


#46: Damien
Wadsworth calling Damien every morning at 6am as revenge for him harassing Joan xD I approve.

#47: Adam
At some points during this episode I had to pause after every sentence because Feelings. (also facepalming.)
Teenage drama xD
Yess Adam telling Caleb that it's not all about him
Adam: "Right, 'cause we can always trust other atypicals" yess
"do I come from a family of monsters?"
Adam calling out Sam on spying
Yep, finally asking about what to do with atypical criminals.
Caleb saying "it's not always about just us" haha now suddenly, this is either hypocritical or a sudden realization
Are they seriously fighting about who loves whom more? No it's just Caleb being insecure. And being scared Adam won't love him anymore, aww bb.
"Just you and me alone in the universe? That could be pretty okay." Personally I disagree, that would be so boring. Eh, teenagers ^^

#48: Mark
Sam and Mark: "Anxiety Girl and Repressed Trauma Boy" …sad and true.
Joan's skeptical "you did [want to talk to me]?" is sad. I'm still over here hoping they'll find better common ground one day. "We don't even know each other anymore" :(
Damien to Mark: "you'll get over it eventually" that is so creepy. Damien is so creepy. Oh my god Damien promising Mark that he'll do better is like textbook abuser. "You scorched all the earth beneath us and this is me salting the ground," yess good job Mark.
...I'm worried Damien will do something stupid. (Not worried for him, fuck that guy, but for the others.)

I'm a little behind (because I too avoid it sometimes when I'm feeling down, which I have been lately), but that quote is a really good way of putting it!

She addresses all the bad!wrong things that happen but still lets them play out which I like too, even as I'm yelling at the characters.
