More Guardian! We are now up to episode 35 (it was a rainy day and perfect for binge-watching), and a few notes now because I'm sure I'll have many more disjointed thoughts after the finale.
Da Qing making Shen Wei pinky swear not to harm Zhao Yunlan was pretty much the best. I love that cat. And he gets some memories back! He says "all" but that doesn't make sense, in that case he would also remember everything about Kun Lun etc, but probably most of them. Including those about Da Ji, who tried to choke him because he didn't remember her, uh… Also, cats do have nine lives! I wonder how many Da Qing has left.
Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan, "I'm not worth what you're sacrificing for me"/"yes you are" at one point, yesss, and then later Zhao Yunlan catches Shen Wei talk with his dad and is suspicious again, heh.
The hospital game episode, #24, was so full of angst and h/c, I loved it. Russian roulette! Fighting against his team! The poison! The bomb!
The government system in Dixing, where the king is basically just a computer who dies after a couple of years, is horrifying. Must be a damn strong spell.
I made fun of Zhu Jiu while he was the bad guy but now that we have the shopkeeper and Sha Ya instead I kind of want him back. At least he was fun. The shopkeeper and Sha Ya both are out for vengeance but too stupid to actually verify that the people they want revenge on are really responsible. Especially the shopkeeper, his grudge against Zhao Xinci was the most stupid. In general there are many vengeance plots on the show but I can't think of a single one that didn't turn out to be a terrible idea.
Zhao's dad living with a symbiote from Dixing for the past twenty years is, uh, surprising to say the least. Very odd.
Poor Lin Jing, fooled by Sha Ya. Then revealed to be a double agent, then sent undercover from the other side, then being found out as a traitor there – and then being killed by Ye Zun :( Nooo, I liked him.
Chu and Guo's adventures were also intense. Chu tends to lose it when confronted with his past, especially his brother, and that in combination with Ye Zun, and then he thought he got Guo killed – not fun. They are very cute together though. And now that Guo was injected with the serum maybe they'll end up not quite as mismatched, power-wise.
The Nightmare Master is scary, but at least the subplot with Zhu Hong's unrequited love for Zhao Yunlan seems to be resolved – also, how could anyone think this show is not gay, idk.
Ye Zun impersonating Shen Wei was great. Of course Zhao Yunlan noticed immediately.
Time travel!! I did not expect time travel! And it is wonderful. So Zhao Yunlan is not the reincarnation of Kun Lun, he is Kun Lun! At least the one Shen Wei met, and immediately had a huge crush on. Omg they were so cute. And Shen Wei is so young!
Da Qing gives Zhao Yunlan his necklace because that's who he wants to follow as his master, and Zhao Yunlan gives it back to him, and then Da Qing loses his memories, so he knows that he found his person but not who he is, and he spends the next 10,000 years not knowing – I really really hope he'll get his memory of "Kun Lun" back, it'll be great. (How much time did they even spend together? Eh, it's unclear, let's say the trip took some time so Da Qing could actually get to know him.)
So Ye Zun hates his brother because his brother made other friends. *facepalm*
I always thought that Shen Wei actually lived through the past 10,000 years, but now it looks like he didn't?? He only woke up a few years, idk 10-15 or so, before canon?? That's really unexpected. In that case, he's so young! He did tell Kun Lun that he tries hard to project an image, and he apparently got legend status while he was buried, but still. Also, in that case he became very powerful very quickly. (What did he say his singular power was again?)
And why does he get ascribed responsibility for the treaty between Haixing and Dixing? He didn't even sign it! How did that confrontation we saw even lead to that strict separation, that seemed a bit out of nowhere. I guess there must have been politics in the background we didn't see.
So the general public now knows about the SID and it is officially disbanded, Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei are wanted fugitives, Ye Zun is preparing Dixing for a war… Exciting :)
