October, week 1

- The first two days of the new job were very interesting, which is promising. My coworkers are nice too.
Four days of office work in a row is more than I've done in months and it was tiring. Next week it'll be five, and also classes start so it'll be even worse! But I can do this. I'll have to go to bed earlier (at the new job I start at 8am) and become more efficient with the free time I do have, which is a good idea anyway.

- We sang in the mass today, it was nice, and then our choir leader told me that I should sing first soprano from now on. !!! Singing soprano did get easier every week, and I enjoy it, but I feel like I'm still adjusting. It's good to know that he thinks I can do it though, and I look forward to trying.

- We finally have proper fall weather. We had 25° on October 1st, which is just perverse. And now not even a week later I'm tempted to turn on the heating in my room.

- Yuletide nominations are open: I'm nominating "The Inheritance Trilogy" and "Echoes of the Fall", but I'm still undecided on the third one.

- Our D&D party adopted! 19 rats and a kid. The rats were the idea of our runecaster, they're intelligent and are supposed to help her with spacesuit development. …she already killed one of them because she was worried it would turn against her. Yeah, this will go poorly.
And the kid is a 13-year-old streetchild with a few ranks in trap finding, and half of our party immediately decided that hey, we need a rogue anyway. MC thinks taking her on our next quest is way too dangerous – but she couldn't stay where she was, and finding somewhere else to take her on short notice is not that easy, and she does want to stay with us, so it looks like we'll actually take a 13-year-old level 1 rogue on a quest with us. *facepalm* MC agreed to train her, and we found a scouting school where she can train until we have to leave on the quest. I find it highly likely she'll be more a burden than a help, so hopefully we'll find an alternative.

I'm glad the new job is going well, although full-time work plus classes sounds very intense!

Get the kid to look after the rats! Or vice versa.

Not quite full-time - 20 hours at one job and 10 at the other. For now planned until the end of the year, then I'll see how it's going.

I wish - the rats don't need looking after, but they're not qualified to look after the kid either, or interested. Although, maybe with some more bribes, and training, and equipment... Hmm :)

Hast du Gleitzeit? Bei uns haben wir das, was dazu führt, dass ich immer wieder mal bereits um 6 im Büro bin, meistens aber zwischen 6 und 7. Keine Klienten, die nerven, und man hat noch was vom Tag, wenn man am Nachmittag aufhört.

Ich bin kein Morgenmensch - 8 ist schon früh genug ^^ Momentan könnt ich auch noch gar nicht früher, weil ich noch ständig Unterstützung brauch und der Kollege, der mich sozusagen anlernt, erst um kurz vor acht kommt. Aber mal sehen, wie sich das dann einpendelt. Ich werd meistens vom Büro direkt auf die Uni gehen, es geht also "nur" um die Länge der Mittagspause.

Ich war früher auch Langschläferin. Das hat sich mit den Jahren geändert. Inzwischen bin ich grummelig, wenn ich nicht um 15:00, spätestens aber 16:00 aus dem Büro rauskann. Aber du arbeitest nur vormittags dort, lese ich heraus?

Montag und Dienstag 6, Mittwoch 8 Stunden. Wie genau das mit den Arbeitszeiten in der Praxis ausschaut und wie flexibel ich dann tatsächlich bin werd ich noch herausfinden.

And oh my goodness, that does sound like a recipe for... turmoil... in your game! Good luck to your party in keeping the rest of their dependents alive?

Maaaaan, Yuletide nominations are so tricky. I finally settled on mine (I think) and am now trying to not change my mind XD Do you have any ideas for what you might want to nominate as your third fandom or are you sticking to two? Got anything really obscure you'd like fic about? (I'm always so curious to see what ends up on Yuletide - the year we had the Swedish travel commercial with the kittens was a delight!)

And oh boy, what is it with D&D parties and adoptions? My two parties still have a kid each to care for that more or less miraculously are still alive. No pets...yet... Best of luck with your rats and rogue child!

I think I'll nominate "Bloodrights" as my third fandom, a stand-alone fantasy novel probably nobody has ever heard of but who knows.

I will confess to not having read "Bloodrights". But there's of course always a chance that someone else might share one's teeny-tiny fandom when it comes to Yuletide :) What's the novel about?

It's about a woman planning to overthrow an evil theocracy. She starts out as a nobody and slowly gathers allies and influence, and the book doesn't shy away from showing that wars always have costs and there's no such thing as a clean battle. It also has one of my favorite trope subversions I've read, but unfortunately that's a major spoiler.
(Warnings for all kinds of violence and brutality etc. associated with war, and also child sexual abuse.)
