Skyjacks #26: There are no kings
May. 28th, 2020 10:02 pmI have a bad headache today, so when I came home I wasn't up for more than a nap and podcast episodes. But they were great episodes. Thoughts about TMA #169 to hopefully come soon, but in the meantime:
Skyjacks #26 was fricking amazing.
DREF! I did not see that coming! I mean, obviously him and Tiberius had history, but I didn't consider that they were family! That confrontation was so cool. And the death, too - Dref goes out protecting his friend and acquiring forbidden knowledge, perfect.
(Also, so Dref told Gable that he has something to tell her when they come back, while the player knew perfectly well that Dref would die, mean ^^)
And Orimar Vale! Those multiple faileddice rolls attempts by Gable to control him, and then he grabs the heart of the Banded Queen and runs, wow. He runs into the room with his sword drawn - what did he feel when Dref died? Orimar fighting Tiberius!
Aaaa I can barely wait to see what happens next. Dref is dead, so to keep up the charade they'd have to find soe other way to control Orimar, except Orimar is developing a will of his own... And they just explicitly aligned themselves with the Tempest Armada, which means both the Red Feather Syndicate and the Youngblood family will be after them... Exciting! And there's still the rest of the Aur Pióra to go! (I really hope Hildred is alright, that was a brutal move by Dref.)
It also reminded me how glad I am about the general uplifting atmosphere of Skyjacks. In another canon, e.g. Critical Role, Dref's death would have focused a lot more on the angst. Here it's there, yes, and it's sad, but mostly I was really into the drama and excitement :)
