schneefinkMore sky pirates! I succeeded in convincing DD to give it a try – the guest star of the latest special might have helped ^^
Ben Meredith as Tiberius' and Dref's brother was great. Of course we're going to see the Youngbloods again…
It is a shame that the negotiation with Argus Westfield had to be done so quickly because of cast scheduling issues, but that happens. This way it still managed to highlight just how much pressure the Red Feather Syndicate could bring to bear, but also just how impressive Orimar Vale is, and the Broker's show of power as well. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if Burza Nyth too will have to deal with the Youngbloods again in the future. Though if it becomes known that the Read Feather Syndicate messed with the Liquid Swords' water purification and risked the city being attacked by the Mariner – the maelstroms must have been very visible – they might find it harder.
(I was also surprised to find out that they only knew for sure about JPC's departure shortly before the recording session where he died, short notice but I think it worked very well.)
Overall, Burza Nyth was so much fun! And so many storylines and character arc set-ups for the future *rubs hands* The events themselves were also fun, the party barely knowing the rules added some entertaining chaos.
During the bird show and falconry competition: splitting the party is always a problem ^^ First Jonnit and Gable and Traveler Kwan have a big fight with the Red Feather Syndicate while Travis becomes a fan favorite at the bird show, and a little later Jonnit and Travis and Orimar almost get killed trying to escape the Syndicate and Tiberius himself while Gable is taking a bubble bath ^^ The actual appearance of theBanded Bandit Queen (yeah that does make more sense) was a fun surprise.
Most episodes I listened to not in front of my laptop, but a few notes for single episodes:
#38, shit that fight against Tiberius went so bad – that they encountered him in the first place was such bad luck – and then, right when both Jonnit and Travis are passed out, the Forest Queen!
#39, woozy-from-injuries Travis being a lot more earnest than normal, all that bonding, aww ^^ With Gable cuddling Jonnit!
#40, Nodoze to Gable asking if he can help them: "Anything. What is your command." I love how much Nodoze respects Gable <3
#41, BAMF!Jonnit! Sacrificing knowing the name of his mentor, ouch. Kicking the Mariner's ass and saving Burza Nyth! The Mariner know who he is now, and wants to claim him… But Future Jonnit commands ships both in the air and on the sea?! Whoa.
Given just how dangerous the Mariner was built up to be, I was still surprised that it wasn't harder, but it was probably not a long plan, more an attack of opportunity.
And then there was the Gable/Hildred Gastaur storyline, which I loved. Gable opening up to Hildred so quickly and telling her so much surprised me a bit at first, but Gable really didn't have anyone to talk to: Jonnit and Dref are so much younger than they are and Gable kind of took them under their (metaphorical) wings, Travis is hard to talk seriously to especially since I don't think they've been on the ship together for that long (not quite sure on the timeline), and they were lying to everyone else on the ship. (Did Gable tell Hildred about Orimar being a zombie?) Hildred, on the other hand, is clearly interested in them, earnest, a capable independent adult, and a good person. Hildred also believes in them and encouraged them. Gable cutting their hair off as a sacrifice and then healing the whole hospital was such a great scene.
I also liked that while Gable, the avenging angel, was brutal and merciless in killing and burning Tiberius, they later were somewhat worried what Hildred would think – and worried that they would kill Hildred in a rematch, heh. While Hildred isn't at all, because a) they're confident in their skills (and lbr Gable's overall performance in the joust was very mixed), and b) they probably realize that Gable only killed Tiberius like that because of their vengeance and therefore the odds of them doing that to Hildred are minuscule. Hildred winning the joust and giving the angel feather to Gable was great – except that it had unintended consequences. I want to know what Hildred saw/knows!! Aaargh. Poor Gable. At least they got to kiss/make out before?
I'm glad Hildred promised to come find them again, but I suspect it might be a while.
I'm massively behind on replies and communication in general, hopefully I can get to that after the exam on Wednesday.
