There Are No Emperors, Anymore. Take Flight

I posted the third chapter of my Skyjacks/Star Wars fusion/crossover AU There Are No Emperors. (I'm still proud of that title.)

This started as a series of daily writing snippets that I then realized were already almost an actual story when put together. I had to re-write the ending a little, which wasn't that hard once I realized that it's my AU and I can make the plot do whatever I want. But now I have to figure out the epilogue, and turns out that's the hardest part by far. Not only because now that I write the epilogue after posting the main story I treat it like an actual story in my head, which means more pressure; but also because I suddenly have to think about how that canon divergence would go.

What if, like in my story, some Jedi survived Order 66, found out about the chips, and then killed Palpatine only a few weeks after the founding of the Empire? Palpatine not only didn't have much time to arrange for an heir, he presumably wouldn't have bothered especially so early because he didn't even consider that he might be killed. Vader certainly can't take over, especially not at this point, he's not stable enough for that (besides, if I have Jedi who killed Palpatine they could just come back and kill Vader too if he tried.) So what next? Will someone like Tarkin try to take over, will the senate manage to win back power and install a puppet Emperor, or will the senate even try to re-establish the Republic, even though they were so enthusiastic about the Empire just a short time ago? If the senate finds out about the chips, will the majority decide that they are useful or will some senators manage to arrange for the clone troopers to be de-chipped? Will there be enough footage unearthed to clear the Jedi's name so they can re-establish the Order, or will they be even more feared and hated because they assassinated the Emperor?

So many possibilities, and I'll have to pick one. On the one hand it's interesting to think about, on the other hand why do I have to think so much for something that was just supposed to be silly and fun ^^

Hmm...do they ever find evidence that Palpatine was actually playing both sides of the Clone Wars? Because I feel like if that conflict is suddenly over, some of the members of the Senate might be like "so...why did we make an Empire again?" and that news could swing them back to democracy. But maybe not!

That's a good idea! After Palpatine dies someone is going to have to take a look at his finances and accounts, and if it comes out just how corrupt he was, even if they don't even find that he orchestrated the entire war that might still be enough to make the Senate rethink the things they did because of Palpatine. (I read a Star Wars AU once where it was discovered that Palpatine was evil because of comparatively small-time zoning laws and tax fraud and I loved that.)
