schneefink: Zagreus (Hades Zagreus)

If I post these more often they are not as long, logic *nods*
Also, after I finished typing these up I finally googled "recording gameplay" and apparently it's very easy and now I feel very silly. I could have so many clips of my favorite scenes, instead of doing all this typing! Hmpf. Why did I not look this up weeks ago.

First escape attempt after being officially employed! God mode, heat 3, shield of Chaos, mostly attacking with Heartbreak Strike as well as five Zeus casts. I made it, but it took me over an hour. And so much story content!

For example, Zagreus immediately telling Chaos, when they ask about some kind of shift they noticed in the Underworld, that Persephone has returned. Chaos: "You may not sense these shifts as I. The lightness of this space bends and adjusts with time. What you describe… it must have been the cause. I trust that the occasion is a welcome one. And I am pleased that you returned, nevertheless."
Why yes I did recently look through all the Zagreus/Chaos fic on AO3.
The next time Zagreus visited Chaos he offered him more ambrosia: "If you'll forgive me, Master Chaos, this Ambrosia is intended to be given to those whom I care about, and I can think of few recipients I'd like to have it more. Please."
Chaos: "I shall accept this, as a final offering, O Son of Hades. For I have given it additional consideration, and decided that my previous analysis of your intentions was too narrow, too inaccurate. And, I regret comparing what you have been doing to an act of theft. Respond?"
Zagreus: "Don't even mention it, please, Master Chaos. All of this is new for me, as well. I try never to overanalazye… my father does enough of that for all of us. I just know, when I encounter the primordial creator, I am going to give thanks. For everything."
Chaos: "…I see. Then, your response is quite acceptable. And, since the act of giving is not an exchange, let us say that you already had my gratitude."
Bond formed with Chaos, and the little face is adorable.

Aphrodite: "A little birdy told me recently that you and Megaera the Fury, why, you've grown quite close! Now do be careful around her, and, try not to get attached, there, hm?" Huh, wonder how Aphrodite found out.
And after choosing her second in a trial: "Let's say we kissed and made up, dearest. Just, do not anger me again, or I might come down and kill you there myself!" I do try to keep track of which gods I choose in trials just so there's no god that I don't choose several times in a row, they would probably be extra angry, but sometimes it's hard to remember.

Meg: "Your mother has returned to us, already, Zagreus. And still you're going to keep battling your way out, past me and everything up there? Why?" Uh, because it's his job now, you know that.
Zagreus: "Father says there's no escape from here, and I like to repeatedly show him he's wrong. Besides, I think getting out there a bit from time to time does me some good."
Megaera: "Sounds like you've found yourself a steady line of work. Most jobs just need doing. If this one gives you some fulfilment, stick to it. Now, come on." Wow, that was pretty nice, coming from Meg!

Eurydice mentioned that it's odd Zagreus finds her in Asphodel so often. Zagreus calls it an "interesting coincidence," but Eurydice disagrees: "Coincidence? Come on, hon, you're a god. Someone out there is sending you my way. Maybe it's just the Fates. Ah well! I sure don't mind a little company. And I have lots to eat!"

Zagreus also thanked Charon very, very much for the boat ride bringing Persephone home ("Your boat's quite comfortable, you know!")

Zagreus also found Patroclus again, whose monologues never become less depressing (this time: "…What more could I have even done? Could I have swayed you, any other way? I tried, with all my might, with all my heart, you must know that, and still, it never was enough…" Ow.) Finally an answer to how he gets all his stuff: "Oh, come on, this is Elysium. Taking such things for granted is the point. We gloried shades receive our stipend of the finest goods, so we can battle till we've had our fill. But I've already had my fill, I think."

And then, confronting Hades! "Heh. Confronting you like this… it's different now. Still… it is a responsibility, just as before. There is to be no escape from my realm. Ultimately, I must see to that, myself."
"That's the spirit, Father! As for me, I find the candor of our interactions here to be rather refreshing, I must say. Especially the interactions between my weapons and your physique. You're tough, but you're an easy target."
"And you are scrawny, though slippery, blast you. All that pent-up rage behind your smiling words… come, unleash it once again. I expect you to go all out. To the death!"
I have to say I was especially motivated to win because there was a fishing point ^^
And their banter during the fight was fun. Hades mentioned something about Zagreus already being spoiled by Persephone, Zagreus said that princes are meant to be spoiled, and Hades sarcastically thanked him for enlightening him, heh.

Then, no Greece :( Just the narrator stating that Zagreus made his way to Persephone's cottage: "It is a journey of considerable distances, which he has already completed many times, and which has always ended in the same result. So… imagine he made it there with just time enough to water the crops and tidy up a bit before…" And then the death.

Hypnos mentioned that Persephone returned, Zagreus said that she's his mother, and Hypnos: "What, really? Huh! So then your mom doesn't spend any time with you, either! We've got something in common!" …ouch. Zagreus said they don't, but still.

Persephone asked if her lavender patches are doing all right, and Zagreus said he couldn't make it all the way there. "It's like… without your presence on the surface, I'm unable to hang on for very long at all." :( Persephone was apparently afraid of that, but she placed a charm upon her seedlings that should keep them flourishing on their own.

Zagreus asked Hades if the shades will let it slip that Persephone is back and Olympus might find out, but Hades said that "You are so well-accustomed to defying me that you forget there are no others, either living or dead, who would so dare." U-hu.

Achilles congratulated Zagreus on the Queen being back and asked about his escape attempts now being officially approved. "That's so, indeed, sir. Especially for now, at least, I'm going to keep on fighting to the surface. Helps me to vent a bit, and, like Hypnos says, it makes the Underworld a better place! Though indirectly, I suppose."
"Well, then, I look forward to working with you in a more formal capacity. And, it is my sincerest hope that you, your mother, and your father learn to get on better with each other, now." Aww.

Nyx still stood in her corner and talked with Zagreus about his new job too. "Well, it does beat standing around in my chambers aimlessly. And… I daresay it feels rather good not to feel utterly incompetent, for a change." He needs more hugs.

Meg: "I never thought I'd see the Queen again. I still can't quite believe she's back… and staying? Is that really your doing?"
Zagreus: "It's her doing, not mine. So you know her? Because… you could have told me. About her. Who she was to me."
Meg: "Don't know her all that well. But I do know Nyx, and I've been bound to secrecy as part of my oath to this House. I flay oathbreakers and liars, Zagreus. Wouldn't do for me to be no better than them, now, would it?" Well, no, but a little more understanding about Zagreus' wish to find her, maybe.
Zagreus: "No, I suppose not. So what does this mean for Nyx, now that she's back? Or for you, for that matter?"
Meg: "The Queen always gave Nyx her space. Yoru father, though… I don't know what it'll be like for him, if she decides to stick around this time." Huh, Nyx at least seemed very fond of Persephone. (…I want all the fic about Nyx having a crush on Persephone that she never pursues.)

I finally had enough gems to afford the painting of the skeleton above the fireplace in the lounge. At least that painted skeleton can enjoy himself, said Zagreus, and Hades said "Would that you were a painted skeleton yourself" *sighs*
