I need (at least) two days of weekend to recharge, which doesn't leave much time for things like housekeeping or studying etc., but at least I've been doing better at getting enough sleep. I still feel tired a lot but else it would surely be worse.

DD and I started watching Shadow and Bone last week. She hasn't read any of the books, and I haven't read the actual Shadow and Bone trilogy but both sequel duologies, meaning my knowledge of the trilogy plot is limited. I didn't expect the characters from "Six of Crows" to get their own subplot, that was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, I wasn't really interested in Alina and Mal. They seem to have a very unhealthily codependent relationship, and I was immediately disinclined to like Alina after she set maps on fire, which meant sending her and other mapmakers into deadly danger, just so she could stay with Mal. Four episodes in, neither the plot nor the worldbuilding nor the characters really caught my attention. (The one character I'm most attached to is the Conductor – he helps refugees escape on a secret train through the Shadowfold, how cool is that. Though I'm surprised he's actively helping Kaz and company with their plans to kidnap the Sun Summoner for unknown purposes. I do like Inej and Jesper too.) Not sure if I'll continue watching this.

Then we watched The Nevers, which DD sold to me as "the X-Men in Victorian England and they're all women," and we'll definitely continue watching this. (Mid-season finale airs tonight, meaning we can watch it tomorrow, I'm excited.) I'm glad I didn't find out that it's a Joss Whedon show before watching the first episode, and then I was immediately told that he left the project.
The characters are compelling and intriguing and interesting, even those who didn't get many scenes yet. Amalia True and Penance Adair are a great pair (best friends, I don't ship them romantically), and I love the roles they get to play, especially Amalia. The lake fight in episode 3 was fantastic.
I also really like Bonfire Annie and Nimble Jack – though I wish that we got a bit more between episodes 4 and 5, that five week time skip was a bit sudden and left out quite a bit. Apparently Amalia explained to everyone about the Galanthi, except the audience, hmpf.
Harriet is also great, and fingers crossed for her relationship with Amir. And I like Desirée too, and Horatio, and Primrose and Myrtle, and I'm intrigued by and suspicious of Lavinia Bidlow. I want to know how she and Amalia came to work together.
Augustus Bidlow is very sweet. But he's not up to standing up to Hugo Swann… that's going to turn out badly, I just know it. Hugo Swann is an ass, and I worry about what Maladie-as-Effie-Boyle wanted from him.
Speaking of, I did not see that coming, and I was impressed Frank put it together so quickly afterwards.
At least the electrocutions and mass panic at the hanging mean that probably nobody will remember the rescue attempt. How would that have been a good idea?? I understand why Penance felt the public execution was unacceptable, but what did she think the consequences of a group of Touched rescuing a mass murderer were going to be? She said she had a plan and we didn't see most of it, but even the first part had Nimble using their abilities very openly, which would definitely let them be identified.
I'm very curious what we'll find out about Amalia, hopefully next episode. DD is better at coming up with theories, and currently her best guess is "time traveling body-snatching alien," which tbh seems pretty plausible to me. But we'll see!

Sunday has become my main 'chores' day because facing that all on Saturday just doesn't sound fun.

I have The Nevers on my to-watch list when I can go hang out with my parents this summer (huzzah for vaccination!) and I'm so glad to hear it's an interesting show! Didn't know that Joss Whedon had been involved with it either, but am sure glad he's out of the picture!

Haven't decided if I should watch Shadow and Bone yet, but I might give it a shot since my mom adores all forms of fantasy TV shows (which I totally get, because her being 70+ years of age she's grown up with waaaaay less cool special effects than I've been spoiled with XD), but it sounds like more of a "watch and talk" series than a super engaging one.

Those are the kind of shows that go down best in our family, since while mom & I love the more "meaty" sci fi & fantasy shows while my sis & dad prefer the more "please pass the popcorn" shows, so finding a mix of both (aka both The Nevers & Smoke and Bone) is an ideal balance XD
