Dracula's castle on TV

DD and I started watching Castlevania. Yesterday, the plan "finish a study session and then watch an episode as a reward" worked very well and I was very productive. Today the plan failed completely and we ended up finishing season 3. Fingers crossed for the next few days.

But. It was so good. I have many emotions. (And many fics bookmarked for later.) I did not expect that! The impression I got from Tumblr was that it was entertaining with strong OT3 vibes but not particularly good, and I'm surprised how much I love it. It's so pretty, and dark but not in a hopeless way (overall), and the characters have depth and development. It's sad but also kinda, hm, satisfying?, if that makes sense.
Not writing more rn because I haven't given up hope of being a little productive today or at least not going to bed very late, but hopefully later because have I mentioned I have many feelings.

Castlevania is surprisingly good (though kinda gory in a cartoon way). S2 gets a little weird plotwise (I'm not fond of the direction it goes) but I like how things shake out and I thought the ending was solid.

I only watched the first season, but I really enjoyed it! I'm not entirely sure why I didn't go back to it when the new seasons were out - a case of "too much else to watch" more than genuinely not caring, mostly. Anyway, it's a really fun show and maybe someday I'll pick the rest of it back up again.

It is very gory, surprisingly that bothered me less than I expected.

There's always so much else to watch! At least the seasons are rather short. I hope you enjoy it if you do pick it up again :)

I think Season 3 is the one most people have issues with. It made some . . . questionable narrative choices.

Yeah, some things could certainly have been done better (or avoided.) Fortunately I did enjoy the happy ending.

I have heard nice things from friends who are gore enthusiasts. I think I did one or two episodes, but never even finished first season, maybe I should give it another look.

Yeah, being okay with a certain level of gore is necessary to enjoy the show. But iirc later seasons are not worse in that regard than season 1, so you can find out quickly if it is too much for you.

Oh, I'm very okay with gore, my attention just wandered off it. Guess it should go back on the list!

Yep. I feel like the CV team themselves decided to quietly ignore parts of s3 when making s4.
