More Hollow Knight

schneefinkWhat I should currently spend most of my free time on: studying for the exam next week.
What I should not be doing: playing a lot of Hollow Knight. …yeah.
(In my ~defense, I'm still working overtime hours because there's so much to do at work and then when I get home I have almost no brainspace left.)
I think I would have enjoyed the game more from the beginning if I hadn't gone in expecting an adventure story. It's more of a mystery story.
Recently in Hollow Knight:
I beat the Soul Master and the Dung Defender – the former was all about learning his patterns and not getting hit, the other was all about learning his patterns to know when to heal up. Then I stumbled into the Ancient Basin, which was cool (and I got some Pale Ore to upgrade my Nail, very convenient) but getting out took me a while because of the spikes. After that I explored the east side of the City of Tears and found the elevator up to the Resting Grounds, where I got the Dream Nail. I also started to explore the Crystal Peak, but made a detour to try and beat the Mantis Lords.
Yesterday I beat the Crystal Guardian, got the Crystal Heart, then beat the Mantis Lords and then the Brooding Mawlek. Then I started exploring the Ancient Basin further, but changed my mind after one death and went to Deepnest instead. (Which is less creepy than I'd feared. The Mouldwood Depths in Ori and the Will of the Wisps were worse.) I made it to the Distant Village, but fell down and then died before unlocking the Stag Station. I'd found a Simple Key and so I unlocked the Pleasure House in the City of Tears, and then I remembered about the ornate door in the Soul Sanctum, opened it with the Elegant Key, and found Shade Soul. Then, from a tip that there was something in the east of the Crystal Peaks, I got the Descending Dark there (which sounds nice but I still haven't really figured out how to use.) I also found the aspid nest (?) in the Forgotten Crossroads but got too annoyed and left it for now.
Today I continued exploring the Deepnest. I found a tram pass and rode the tram, that was cool. Eventually I made it to the Beast's Den and killed Herrah. Which means the Forgotten Crossroads are now the Infected Crossroads - I'm glad I killed the Brooding Mawlek already because I'll probably try to avoid that area for now. Along the way I also found/bought a few mask parts, so by now I have seven health masks and two small additional soul containers.
Next: probably exploring more of the Ancient Basin. Either that, or fighting some of the Warrior Dreams to finally get more Essence for the Seer.
(I didn't entirely manage to resist the urge to look up some things online - looking up the rewards is e.g. how I decided to kill the Brooding Mawlek but not bother with the aspid nest - but fortunately mostly. So I strongly suspect the ~double jump/Monarch Wings are somewhere in the Ancient Basin and that would be very nice to have.)
