Not officially a Fool yet

I finally have a Hollow Knight icon!
Thanks to a tip from Youtube video I discovered the hidden Shrine of Believers in Hollow Knight with messages from Kickstarter backers and found out that one of the messages is from an old friend of mine :D That was a delightful surprise. We haven't been in contact for over five years but of course I had to message him immediately.
On Monday I finally beat Soul Tyrant. I watched Merg do it in his playthrough, with very few upgrades, and then was convinced that I could do it too. It took me a few tries to get the patterns down, but my last attempt, using Unbreakable Strength, Soul Eater, Grub Song, and Dream Shield (the latter thanks to watching Merg), went very well.
Then I died very quickly to the Failed Champion a few times and decided to do White Defender instead. I did that in two tries, using Unbreakable Strength, Mark of Pride, Quick Slash, and Unbreakable Heart. I know I can fight him again, but I had 2400 Essence so I went to see the Seer to hear her final words.
Yesterday I tried the Trial of the Fool, but eventually gave up after getting to the stage with the Volt Twisters once and then failing to reach it again. I finally understand the hate for Primal Aspids… I'm sure I can win it eventually but it's going to take quite a bit of practice.
So today I decided to do the first Pantheon instead. I made it to the fight against Oro and Mato, I love that they're fighting together; though, how "real" are fights in Godhome? I can't believe that the minds of all these characters, Hornet and the Nailmasters etc., get actually summoned into this ~Goodseeker dream realm somehow every time they are fought in the Pantheons or in the Hall of Gods. But Oro and Mato do act like they know each other, so I assume it's an imprint of their mind or something like that? In any case, I strongly doubt that the real Oro and Mato are aware of the battles in Godhome, and I can't decide if that makes it more or less sad to see Mato support Oro and to see them fight together: the potential is still there, but in the real world it's very unlikely to ever happen again.
I died to them in the arena and then tried to beat them in the Hall of Gods: eventually I managed it on approximately every second try. Ideally I want a little more consistency before I try the pantheon again.
Now that the outstanding achievements are mostly difficult fights that require a lot of practice (apart from the Path of Pain, which is the platforming equivalent and which I also still want to try eventually), I'm not sure how long the game will keep my interest. Most of the time I get tired of practicing the same fight after about half an hour. Otoh I still enjoy watching others play the game, and trying a speedrun is kinda tempting too… Guess I'll see.
