The first season of The Legend of Vox Machina finished and I liked it a lot. I can't be objective about this show because I love the source material so much, but DD hasn't seen the campaign and she enjoyed it too. I love the intro, and the music is stuck in my head.
I haven't watched those specific episodes of the campaign in years, I didn't rewatch them before on purpose so that the direct comparison wouldn't distract me too much, but I thought they did a great job with the adaption, starting with the character designs. The show had many favorite moments, some great ones I'd forgotten, and some that were probably new. I might rewatch the episodes now to see the differences :)
I think my favorite running joke was the trouble with doors. The first time, breaking into the mansion, I kind of rolled my eyes, but the sequence where they split up to break into the prison and one group just can't get the door open was hilarious.
I was surprised by the brutality: many people died violently and with a lot of blood on-screen. No wonder everyone in Whitestone is terrified, for example. (I did wonder about the soldiers defending the castle from the rebels – are they not from Whitestone? Did the Briarwood bring their own private army and housed them inside the castle complex? But tbh I'm probably overthinking it/that would have been far too complex to get into in that time.)
The one moment I was very surprised by was when it looked like Cassandra's throat was actually slit – iirc in the campaign it was an illusion, since she's working with the Briarwoods and Anders knows that, but here either it was a very good illusion or Anders knew but decided to kill her anyway. Iirc in the campaign Cassandra was also working with the rebellion as a triple agent? I do want to rewatch those episodes.
The corpses on the Sun Tree was a very effective scene, as was the acid trap. (Scanlan alone in the mansion didn't work for me as well for some reason, idk.) And before that, the wraiths attacking their keep – I didn't remember that from the campaign at all but those were very creepy. And I really enjoyed seeing Hotis in that short flashback from Vax, gives me hope that we will get one of my favorite scenes later on :D
The last scene, with Uriel stepping down, was even more sudden than I remember it, but the arrival of the dragons was very cool.
I very much look forward to season 2! I can't imagine that they'll do the whole Chroma Conclave, that's just too much content to pack into one season. Maybe they'll retrieve most of the Vestiges and kill Umbrasyl, leaving Vorugal, Raishan and Thordak for season 3? (Hopefully they'll find out soon if there will be a season 3, that'll make planning easier, but I'm optimistic.)
