What is this, me saying I should make a specific rec list and then immediately doing it? Weird. Under the cut: 8 more Founders-era Naruto fic recs.
a symbol of subjugation by
evocates
325k, Uchiha Madara/Senju Tobirama, politics
Summary:: “Consider how this looks. The Senju proposes peace at the height of their power. The Uchiha, already losing, don’t have the resources to match the Senju. If the Senju provides us with food and armour, the Uchiha must become subordinate. Is that what you think of as peace, Senju? Over at the Uchiha compound, we call that subjugation by the most powerful.”
“It seems that there is only one possible solution: the Senju must choose a symbol to subjugate itself to the Uchiha to balance out the scales. For that role, I volunteer myself.”
The wise ones know: fires can warm and not burn; and rivers, if given strength and permission, will carve the land.
(Or, the one in which Tobirama becomes Madara’s concubine, and peace is won and held through neither power nor love, but food, water, clothes, and medicine.)
Why I love it: I haven't reread this since it finished because of its length, but I remember that I loved the politics and worldbuilding, the h/c, and it was also delicious as a fan of loyalty and self-sacrifice tropes as well as competence kink. The slowly developing relationships worked well too. Overall a very nice fix-it for a lot about Konoha.

MadMothMadame
264k, gen-focused with some Hashirama/Mito and Tobirama/Madara, WIP (20/23)
Summary:: “All war is fratricide, and there is therefore an infinite chain of blame that winds its circuitous route back and forth across the path and under the feet of every people and every nation." -Louis de Bernières
The war is over. Tobirama ended it when he put his sword through Izuna's center mass. But where war had united the Senju behind their leader, peace threatened to tear them apart. And who better for the warmongers to look to as a leader than the greatest killer of Uchiha they had ever seen?
There were only two problems with that plan. One, Tobirama would never, ever, betray his elder brother.
Two, he may or may not have a surprisingly not dead Uchiha Izuna in a coma in his guest room, hiding the secret of resurrection that Tobirama needs with everything he is.
Now if only he would wake.
Why I love it: I rarely rec WIPs because I know many people prefer to read only finished stories, but I couldn't leave this one out, and besides it's quite long already and several plot points are already (half) resolved. This one has quite a bit of delicious angst, mostly centered on perceived or feared betrayals, on top of some nice politics and competence kink and figuring out that your enemies are also people and possibly even forgiveness.

36.7k, gen, Hashirama&Tobirama & Hashirama&Madara
Summary:: Hashirama really doesn't approve of the thoughtful way his father looks at his younger brother's bright red eyes. He's sure it doesn't mean anything good for anyone.
He's right.
Why I love it: This one features Tobirama with the Sharingan and overprotective brother Hashirama and is at turns very dark and other times hilarious. I especially love Hashirama in this story who is both kind, funny, and scary, and not an idiot at all. ("I'm a shinobi!" [etc.] is a great scene.)
As Is the Sea Marvelous by
blackkat
58.5k, Madara/Tobirama
Summary:: Tobirama is willing to give absolutely anything for Hashirama and his dream.
Why I love it: This is pure angsty self-sacrifice idfic and I eat it up with a spoon.
Following Dreams (to Doom or Desire) by
Hiruma_Musouka
40k, Tobirama/Madara, magic AU
Summary: In a world full of spells and spirits, humans have found ways to make magic mundane. If it was an everyday thing, it was controlled. It was safe. The wonder was gone, but so were the Gods: all they were was stories.
Why I like it: I enjoy stories about humans and gods interacting and also stories with secret identities and this one is both, and both the AU and plot are well done.
A Soft Green Glow by
SharksEye
12.6k, Izuna&Tobirama
Summary: Returning from an ambush that killed his entire team and near fatally wounded him, Izuna finds himself followed by an enemy far more dangerous than the ones he left behind. Even if he makes it back to Uchiha lands, he'll be killed long before help can arrive. That is, if the blood loss doesn't get him first.

The title of my notes on this is 'Tobirama Escorts Izuna Home'. That's it, that's the story.
Why I like it: This one starts out with Izuna mostly out of it, which makes for funny moments, and later it has puppy!Hashirama (not literally), but it also has quite a bit of angst, especially in the section where Tobirama thinks about what he did and the consequences.
and all the fire's at your fingertips by
PandaFlower
10k, Senju Tobirama & Uchiha Kagami
Summary: Tobirama is elbow deep in a stealth mission in Wind Country when he runs into a shinobi squad toting a stolen Uchiha child. Tobirama disapproves.
Why I like it: Tobirama rescuing a small Uchiha child and them bonding during the way home is unexpectedly cute and fun (and it also features good action & near-death parts.)
Binding by
RoeDusk
3k, Tobirama & Kakuzu
Summary: Kakuzu fails to assassinate the First Hokage, and ends up fighting his younger brother.
Because Kakuzu's praise for intelligent opponents in canon would make Tobirama the perfect rival.
Why I like it: I had not considered these two interacting but turns out it is fun.

Date: 2024-01-07 12:24 pm (UTC)Here through your Snowflake wishlist! I'm loving all of these recs (especially since I've either read them or have them in Marked for Later), and I have a rec to give you, too, since you mentioned PandaFlower:
Kamikakushi by
PandaFlower is about a teenage Tobirama getting involved with yokai and the spiritual because his futon tried to eat him (yeah, it has a wild start, lol). I loved it mainly because it introduced me to a lot of mythical beings of Japanese folklore (like the futakuchi-onna, for one); the relationship between Tobirama and Izuna as shown in the two trips to Land of Fire's capital and Daimyo they've met on as representatives of their clans; and the wonderful nuggets of worldbuilding sprinkled throughout (such as what it means to be a noble shinobi clan).
Sadly, it's unfinished and has been on a rather long hiatus, but I think it's still worth a read.

Date: 2024-01-07 07:03 pm (UTC)Thanks for the rec too, I agree, Kamikakushi is great. I also really like howling at the unfeeling stars by Pandaflower, also a WIP. It looks like they are into the Silmarillion now so who knows if they'll finish their Naruto WIPs one day, but fingers crossed!
