Ukraine won Eurovision! Not unexpected, but I was still surprised just how many votes they got from the public. Several countries did much worse than I expected (France, Finland, … , even Germany) and others much better (the UK song was not bad but not that good; though I did enjoy the disbelieving reactions.) As every year I was torn between really disliking the jury voting, and appreciating the dramatic moments that result from it (zero points from the public for Switzerland!)
To my own surprise, the song stuck in my head this morning is Romania's.

The usual disconnect between the jury and public votes this year was a hilariously yawning chasm (most dramatically with the Swiss song, as you say, but also with Moldova — something like 10 points from the jury, and literally 200 from the public). The public hate ballads (unless they're melodramatic power ballads), and the juries hate fun!

I was a bit sad about France, though — I loved that song, and although I didn't think it would win, I thought it would do better than that. The baffled terror from people in the UK when the country's song inexplicably started doing well was hilarious (at one point, 'WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?' was trending on Twitter in the UK).

I was very happy Moldova got so many points from the public!
Come to think of it, I don't even know if the jury has any kind of criteria that they're "supposed" to judge the songs on. Eh.

I also very much enjoyed when the camera panned to the UK the first time they got twelve points and they started chanting "we got points!!" xD

Really need to get caught up on Eurovision. Glad Ukraine won <3 And wasn't aware of that auction, definitely checking it out!

Eurovision is always good fun :)
Bidding is only open for two more days! I need to check which offers I was outbid on (and hope that people don't wait until the last second to put in higher offers... auction risks.)

Indeed! And a huuuugeee deal here in Sweden so I have no idea how I so often manage to miss out on watching it XD

Auctions can be so adrenaline fueled by the end - I hope you get the things you've been bidding on!
