TV: Taskmaster, Severance

schneefinkI finished two TV shows today, Taskmaster series 13 and Severance. Weird combination, now that I think about it.
DD and I watched series 13 of Taskmaster every week as it came out – except for the finale because she was on vacation, and then when she came back we forgot about it. Today we finally watched the last episode. I was hoping Chris would win, he was consistently my favorite (the sausage game was possibly my favorite task of the series.) In general the tasks he scored worse on were iirc either studio tasks where he had bad luck or tasks where Greg gave him very little points for reasons I couldn't understand, so that he lost by only three points to Sophie is unfortunate. But overall it was a great season that I enjoyed a lot.
We also finished watching Severance, I for the first time and DD the second time. The show consistently got better throughout the season, and while we started out watching an episode a day I was glad that we could watch the entire second half over the long weekend. That was a very exciting build-up to an even more exciting finale, aösldkfsö that was so tense. DD told me it was a normal kind of cliffhanger for a season finale, which to be fair is probably true but still!! At least the show was already renewed.
They did such a great job with the workplace dystopia, holy shit. Juuust on the level of "this could never happen in real life" but with a tiny kernel of doubt because you just know that there are executives out there who have fantasized about this exact thing. The Break Room! I was almost expecting them to add "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" at the end every time.
I liked the characters, too. I was hoping Mark S. and Helly R. would stay platonic (there don't have to be romantic feelings when you add a woman to a group!) but ah well, can't have everything, and other than that I liked the two of them together a lot, they worked well together despite or rather because of their differences. I really liked Mark Scout and Devon's relationship too, and Irving B. & Burt G.'s. (I briefly checked to see if there was a consensus for how to tell apart "innie" and "outie" when writing about them – I hate those terms so much btw I'm very tempted to replace them with "inside person" and "outside person" even though the infantilizing words are canon – but the only thing I've seen is iMark for inside!Mark and that made me think of iPhones so I'm not sure I want to use it.) Finding out that Helly's outside person is Helena Eagan, and that Irving's outside person is apparently already investigating Lumon, was very cool. I'm so curious what's up with Ms. Cobel/Selvig, and Casey/Gemma, and Dr. Reghabi who's still out there somewhere, and the baby goats!
