I'd been looking forward to this for a month, and it was as much fun as I'd hoped :)
I watched Dream and the Yellow Yaks live and then Tommy and the Orange Ocelots the next day, which I think was the right order; what a contrast though.
I enjoyed watching Dream especially in games like Meltdown (which might be my favorite game) and Skybattle and Sands of Time where he and his team did really well. I was rooting for Skeppy and BadBoyHalo to win and was especially happy Skeppy did so well in e.g. Skybattle (as Dream put it, he was the second best player in MCM after the goat), and I enjoyed moments like Dream shouting "DNF!" during Dodgebolt. (…easy to see where shippers are coming from js.)
As for Ace Race, I think my favorite moment was Dream muting and explaining at length why he thought it was a terrible decision, and when he unmuted the first thing he hears is BBH saying he thought the redo was the right thing to do ^^ (Him feeling frustrated is perfectly understandable and he did emphasize not to send hate to the Noxcrew, but accusing the organizers of only redoing the game because they are biased toward certain competitors was in bad taste. If he'd been one of the ones affected he most likely would have wanted a redo too. And pretending to have technical difficulties so he has time to watch Purpled's race and skips wasn't great, but tbh I found it so funny that he failed the skip every time and probably lost several ranks just because of that that I couldn't even be mad about it.) It was a shame that team morale was so low after that and during HITW but at least they won in the end.
(I am completely unsurprised that some fans are being assholes about it though, sadly.)
As for Orange – what do you even say to quotes like "We are the cummers, they are the carpark"? xD Tommy what is your brain even. They did so well! Especially in games like Sands of Buildmart. They had great team communication during games, switching between Tommy and HBomb as team leaders; though in between they also ~bullied Tubbo, and Tommy's method of team bonding was "ask one teammate to talk shit about us and then another to encourage us to even us out." Some other favorite moments were Tommy blaming his bad RSR placements on Jack not coming up with terrible jokes quickly enough, and Tommy defending his brother against Jack saying that Ace Race is his only weird sex thing (apparently he forgot about Sally the salmon xD) HBomb got first overall even though he was drinking the whole time ^^ They threw Dodgebolt so hard, and I'm not even talking about Tubbo falling off the edge, Tommy and Jack were typing in chat multiple times while they were in the game *facepalm* But hey, at least they had fun! (Also this was Tommy's third consecutive appearance in DB! While Jack Manifold hasn't even won a DB round yet.)
Another thing I watched was Wilbur's Ace Race (of course) – he officially ended his bit, sung a song and had a picture of a gravestone and everything, and then they repeated Ace Race and he had to do it again xD Every time I hear him sing badly during MCC it's very hard to believe that he's in a band.
I also watched Hannah and Cyan during Sands of Time, they did great, and Hannah placing 15th during her first appearance is impressive.
Other favorite things: the Pink Pensioner skins including Phil and Martyn switching theirs, plus Martyn wearing Philza's red and white hat, and Ranboo's outfit. I'm sad for Ranboo he didn't get the 2000 coins he wanted, fingers crossed for next time.
I already look forward to the next MCC!
Meanwhile, I'm doing better health-wise (not fully recovered, but I'll probably go to work for a few hours tomorrow regardless because there are deadlines coming up), and now it's apparently DD's turn. Tbh we weren't careful about staying apart at all so it's not surprising at all that I infected her, but I was at least hoping it'd take another day or two for less overlap. Clearly this means I finally need to make the DSMP fic rec lists I've been thinking about so she has something to entertain her.

Date: 2022-08-27 06:12 pm (UTC)It was a fun event for sure! I was very happy that H got individual first, it's been a while and he always deserves it <3. Meltdown has been a very fun addition, I like the PVP games in general (although BattleBox not so much) and it's always fun to see how gameplay strategies develop. It probably doesn't hurt that the Hermits are actually pretty ok at PVP, haha.
Samds of Mart was just as chaotic as I was hoping, and hearing Joel (Smallishbeans) rage at the skeletons interrupting him before he could mine the blocks was hilarious XD. Aqua actually got a forwarning to the Internet disconnect thing because both Fruit and Scar completely froze during the voting, and they're the two who were kicked later. Poor Joel had never done so well in Ace Race before the redo, but the team did better overall the second time. And then later I found out that Wilbur had his big Ace Race finale ruined and I'm sorry but that made it ten times better and was totally in the Wilbur spirit lol.
I gotta say I'm not impressed with Dream, but that's more my general opinion that someone with such a big following really needs to watch what they say because there are always fans who will jump on their words and use it as an excuse to go harass people. And the more fans, the more such people you'll have. And also because a subset of MCC 'fans' will use any excuse to harass Scott, who didn't even have anything to do with the decision, but that's more of a general problem by now tbh.
I didn't watch Orange but I saw their comments in chat and, well, it's Tommy and Tubbo so I didn't expect anything less than chaos. Was H really drunk the whole time? That seems to work out really well for playing MCC somehow. And Tubbo falling off the edge was iconic :D.
I've seen Hannaxxrose in Twitch Rivals before, she is scary. I'm not surprised she did so well, good for her!
Hope you're doing better too, there may be future posts I haven't seen yet so I guess I might find out XD.

Date: 2022-08-28 09:40 am (UTC)Yeah, Wilbur's Ace Race final being ruined was the perfect ending to the bit ^^
Definitely agree Dream should be more careful with his words. Poor Scott! (Sadly I can easily see how a person who both puts together the teams and also plays himself is the target of harassment.)
The MCC Discord suspected that Hbomb was drunk pretty much from the beginning and he admitted during DB that he'd been drinking the whole time, but tbh I don't think I would have noticed myself.
I'm doing better, thanks :) Still not 100% after almost two weeks, which is really annoying.

Date: 2022-09-04 01:12 pm (UTC)I'm still laughing at HBomb, he usually at least pretends to be PG. Have you seen the clips of Fundy playing MCC drunk? The alcohol made his thinking so sideways that he did several impossible things during the games.

Date: 2022-09-04 05:21 pm (UTC)Okay, let me shower you with some links that you can ignore at your leisure:
Rendog's practice session VODs with the whole team
HBomb's VOD, False's VOD, Rendog's VOD, and Fruitberries' edited VOD.
If you're only watching one POV I'd suggest Ren's - he really struggled some places but it's just such a classic underdog (no pun intended) story.
Save False's POV for MCC10 :PThere's also MCC9 Blue Bats [redacted for spoilers] (all POVs), and the by now classic How the Blue Bats WON MCC 9 by Frostbyte Freeman, as well as several fanvids I will link at the drop of a hat if you show interest XD.

Date: 2022-09-04 06:37 pm (UTC)All I know about Ren is that he is half-dog(?), and he is king in the current Hermitcraft season and he sets the others challenges and rewards them with diamonds, and people were surprised he was not overthrown immediately. I look forward to checking out his PoV :)
Re: I'm completely normal about MCC9
Date: 2022-09-06 08:38 pm (UTC)Rendog/Renthedog wasn't really doggish at all, but fandom depictions range from a guy with clip-on ears and tail through human-dog hybrid to werewolf and apparently he liked the idea, because a haircut a few seasons ago revealed some brand new ears. He's such a great guy; kind, silly and humble, and very good at the storytelling/cinematic Minecraft angle as well as building - not exactly skills that transfer well to MCC where he had to work pretty hard just to be average.
Yeah, Bdubs crowned him king and he just decided to run with it. Usually any government on Hermitcraft is a good excuse for a fun conflict, but he's doing a good job and our local resistance man (Grian) is determined to not be predictable by starting another rebellion. It's looking like Impulse might do it instead though...
