My most-used quote of 2022 was definitely "time is a weird soup" (Fearne Calloway, Critical Role.)

Fic I wrote:
Providing Entertainment, The Magnus Archives, Jon&ghost!Gerry drabble
Escaping the Night, Hades, vampire AU drabble
Last Kiss, Nirvana in Fire, Jingyan/Nihuang/Lin Shu drabble
Cut Off, Nirvana in Fire, Lin Chen & MCS wingfic
In the Dream Grove, Dice Disasters, Jasmin & Cody missing scene
Cost of a Reprieve, Hollow Knight, Pale King drabble
Go About Your Business, Act As If You're Free, Phoenotopia: Awakening, Lisa & Bart about Gail post-canon scene
Neighbors Say We're Trouble, Phoenotopia: Awakening, reports about Kitt post-canon
Speaking the Other Language, DSMP, Bedrock Bros pre-Doomsday canon divergence fix-it
New Sword in a New Era, The Misfit of Demon King Academy, post-canon Shin reincarnation

In total I wrote almost 28.9k words, which is the most I've written in a year since 2015 (huh.) Almost 16k was Speaking the Other Language, which was also a WIP that I both started and finished and probably the story I'm most proud of this year. That, and Cost of a Reprieve.
Most of it was for tiny fandoms and/or very short so I never expected much feedback and was happy with what I got (though I was hoping for more comments on the DSMP fic considering the fandom size, ah well.)

I didn't read many books this year, and none I really loved. I didn't watch many movies either. I watched some TV shows: I did enjoy The Legend of Vox Machina, Hikaru no Go, Severance, and Interview with the Vampire, but didn't really feel fannish about any of them. Several times I told myself that I shouldn't start watching a new series because what if it was as good as people said it was and would distract me from studying?, but fortunately that won't be a problem in the next few months so hopefully I can watch a few more.

I continued to play computer games a lot. During the first half of the year I played a variety of different games: I loved Hollow Knight and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, and I especially loved Phoenotopia: Awakening (promo post - I played 99 sessions of PHOA according to the Steam Replay, I wish I'd seen that earlier and made it an even 100.) I also enjoyed Wandersong and Rabi-Ribi.
And then in August I started playing Minecraft and that's basically all I've been playing since then. All in one world, single player, survival on normal difficulty.

I stumbled into my newest fandom when I wondered why this Minecraft Youtuber who died this June was so famous that there were articles about it in various national and international newspapers. I watched a few of Technoblade's videos and things kind of spiraled from there. After watching some highlights I started watching all his Dream SMP videos and VODs, then some DSMP content by other people, then at the same time I started watching his tournament VODs (Minecraft Monday, Minecraft Championships etc.) and then current MCCs and then old MCCs from other people's PoVs, then I started watching Techno's SMP Earth VODs, then video compilations and other Minecraft videos by other people like the Manhunt series and videos from convention panels and other Minecraft tournaments, and even non-Minecraft videos by MCYTers (mostly SBI, & friends.) Recently I've been watching many of Philza's VODs, mostly while playing Minecraft myself, and once DD is back we'll continue watching both SMP Earth and the Bedwars winstreak playlist.

It's one of the last fandoms I would have expected but to be honest I'm having a great time. (Apart from the sadness that comes with getting into a fandom right after/because of someone's death.) It's a very new type of fandom for me, many different, hm, spheres, and the fans <-> content creator relationships were very odd to me at first, but I'm getting used to it (…kinda.) I'm not interacting with others much yet, apart from occasionally on Tumblr where I mostly lurk and of course commenting on fic, but thankfully I have DD to share my enthusiasm for parts of it and she patiently listens when I talk about the other parts. I'm aware it's very wanky but I rarely notice it much since I did a good job curating my Tumblr follow list. I've written one fic for it so far; I think I might write more, but I really don't know for which corner of this weird fandom amalgamation. Could be more DSMP, could be an SBI AU, or other emerald duo or something else, idk. There's plenty of other parts of MCYT I'm interested in exploring too, I just haven't had the time yet. There's a lot of content.
For Christmas I also treated myself to a pink Techno hoodie that I'm currently wearing all the time at home.

My main internet and fandom home is still Dreamwidth. I might share fewer fandoms with people in my circle but it's more about the community. I've also gotten better at remembering that this is my journal and I can just post stuff for myself, I enjoy rereading my notes to jog my memories every once in a while. I did manage to post a few recs, at least.
Followed by Tumblr: I decided against making a sideblog for MCYT even though that seems to be the popular variant, but at first I wasn't sure how long I'd stay interested and then I figured anyone who really doesn't want to read about it (because afaik I can't hide things I reblog under cuts) can just filter out the tag.
I still lurk on Twitter but a bit less, and I was slightly more active on Reddit, mostly on the MCC subreddit. I spent a lot of time watching videos on Youtube and Twitch, but I don't really count that because I don't even have a (fandom) account there, though the odds that I will make a Twitch account this year are good.

I went to Vienna Comic-Con for the first time this year, that was fun. Another favorite fandom-related moment of the year was listening to the end of TMA s4 with [personal profile] dhampyresa when I visited her in Paris: fandom means sharing both joy and pain xD

On the non-fannish non-personal side, I'll remember 2022 as the year the Ukraine war started; and also the pandemic was still kind of… there. (I have a lot of feelings about both that I don't really want to get into rn.)

On a personal level, it was the year in which I finally finished my second Bachelor's degree! I passed my last exam in November, after more than five years. Such a relief, I'm very happy and proud of myself. (I thought for quite a while about whether to title this recap post "challenge completed" or "milestone reached," neither fits perfectly but I think challenge is better.)

I'm no longer singing in the choir, first because of COVID and then also because the location changed, it'd take me almost an hour to get to choir practice now and the time didn't feel worth it. I'm sure I'll sing in a choir again eventually, but I'm not entirely sure when (or even if it'll be the same choir, because there'll be a new choir conductor next year.)

We didn't manage to organize a session for our pre-COVID D&D campaign, sadly. But I'm now playing a different game with a different group! I heard about the group and the game they were starting at LB's birthday party last year from a friend of his I've known for a while and asked if I could join. We're playing Die Schwarze Katze (or „cat D&D" as I sometimes call it), we're all cats and having a lot of fun. We're playing about twice a month or so, and we also sometimes meet up for other things in-between. Definitely a highlight.

Other highlights of this year include the above-mentioned long-anticipated visit to Paris and hanging out with [personal profile] dhampyresa, which was great. Other than that, not much happened that I recall right now. LB spent a few more months in France for his doctorate and then when he came back moved into a very nice new apartment (sadly not very close to mine.) I'm still living in the same apartment that has barely changed; I spend most of my time in the kitchen with DD now rather than in my room. Also hopefully cuts down on heating costs ^^

I still work at the same job with mostly the same people. I like the work I do and most of my colleagues, I dislike the constant stress and many of my bosses' organization and prioritization choices. There are most likely better workplaces out there but so far I haven't had enough motivation to look.

Looking back at my plans for 2022 I did pretty well! I finished my degree, I wrote more and I played a TTRPG regularly. I'm still not entirely sure if I want to do a Master's degree before doing the tax advisor exams (but probably not), and I didn't manage to do some kind of regular (i.e. weekly) physical activity, I'm carrying both of those over to 2023.

Another resolution for 2023 is to be tidier. There's quite a bit of backlog to clean up first, also just in the general category of "I'll deal with that once I'm done with my degree," but eventually I'll get those things sorted and manage to keep my apartment in a state where my mom won't frown and offer that she can help me tidy up when she visits.

I would also like to try dating again. For the longest time I didn't have the energy or time, plus the pandemic, but now I'd kinda like to try again. Plan: go on at least one date.

All in all I'm mostly optimistic about the coming year, fingers crossed.

Thanks for hanging out here with me! May 2023 be a good year for you and your loved ones.
