DD wanted to rewatch Young Royals and asked if I wanted to watch it with her, and I was skeptical but thought that I would watch it while fishing in Minecraft maybe. Iirc it took me only three episodes to stop doing other things while watching it.

It's a show about a Swedish prince at a boarding school who develops a crush on a boy – and not just any boy, but *gasp* a commoner. And one with socialist tendencies, even! Yes DD writing the complete crack fic Seduced by the Socialist is my "fault" xD
It's remarkable how much less frustrating it is to watch teenagers make dumb decisions when they actually look like teenagers. We're calling it "the dumb teenagers show" now. I'm only lightly paraphrasing when I say that when I first saw Wille DD pointed at the screen and said "that's babygirl," and it didn't take long for me to understand the impulse. We also agree that his security team should be fired.

I was thoroughly spoiled for the plot of season 1, but I have no idea what's going to happen in season 2 (apart from that DD said Felice is likely to stay a favorite character, and some minor details) and I look forward to finding out.

I haven't seen season one, but someone put up a half-hour summary (all clips, not narration), so I know generally what is going on. What sent me to look for that was seeing a clip of the two boys on an American talk show (Jimmy Fallon? I don't recall) in which the host remarked that he had watched the dubbed into English version rather than Swedish with subtitles, and thought that the actors doing the dubbing had voices amazingly similar to the original actors. They said "That was us." So they did the whole thing twice, once as whole body actors and then as voice-over actors.

We're watching the English dubbed version with English subtitles, originally because the sound was quiet and then because occasionally there are significant differences between the the English dub and the subtitles. I can't think of an example off the top of my head, and for just watching and enjoying it doesn't really make a difference, but if I was interested the nuances and/or writing fic that would definitely be something to pay attention to. I wonder which version is closer to the original Swedish - my guess is the subtitles.

It both is and isn't - I feel bad making too much fun of emotional teenagers but yes it's definitely ridiculous at times ^^

I mean, sometimes I just want high drama romance with probable failboats and class and political divides. So thank you. :)

Also: at least when it's teenagers and they're ridiculous, it's like, in character, and growth is possible? (Sometimes I watch things and they advance plot at the expense of consistent or logical characterisation and it's just - flames, flames on the side of my face.)

Oh absolutely, they're being dumb in a very plausible and even understandable (to various degrees) teenager-like way, it just makes sense for them being teenagers. And growth is possible! Though for some it might take a while ^^
