It's Perseids time

I saw so many beautiful shooting stars yesterday, it was amazing. Eight of us - my cat game group, another friend of a friend, LB, and I - in two cars drove about half an hour outside of Vienna to a nice solitary spot in an empty field to avoid the worst of the light pollution, we had picnic blankets and actual blankets and snacks, and we had a great time. Occasionally we played some music and sang along. We got lucky and there were barely any clouds. Most of the shooting stars were smaller ones, but we also saw a couple of very big and bright ones streaking across half the sky.
(I didn't remember to wish on all of them, but I did make a couple of wishes.)

The plan for next year is to stay at one friend's aunt's summer house for the weekend, the sky should look even better from there. I'll miss that because of Worldcon but there's always the years after that.

Oooh, sounds like a good time! I ducked out last night to see if it was clear enough, but alas, despite a mostly clear day it got cloudy in the evening (and rained overnight).

That's bad luck. But I think it'll still be a few more days so maybe better conditions another night :)

I'm going to be in a rural area in a few days and definitely looking forward to looking at the Perseids!

It was! (And even apart from the shooting stars, it's nice to look at a night sky with more stars visible than in a large city like Vienna every once in a while.)
