It's been a while since I last posted about playing Minecraft. 1.20 came out \o/ with many cool things.

This was the first major update I was around for and I had gotten the impression that existing worlds need to be manually updated instead of it happening automatically. I debated updating Aurantia, my first world, but I wasn't sure if I want to get netherite gear first as long as a template wasn't necessary yet, and so I started a new world instead. Keeping with the theme of naming it after the other game I've been recently playing, I named it after the world of "Afterimage," Engardin; in full I called it "Engardin Razed," a common curse in-game since it's a post-apocalyptic world. I thought that was very fitting for a Minecraft world post-archaeology update :)

I'd planned to reset if my spawn was somewhere boring, but I spawned in a mangrove swamp! Very cool. I did some exploration nearby, which included dying very soon because I wanted to get fish for food and forgot to keep an eye on my air level without Respiration III so I drowned. I got a little iron but mostly I just looked around. There was also a jungle nearby, very convenient, and a small savannah. Then I made my way back, and the swamp still looks cool but it's annoying to navigate. At first I had plans for a tree house base in the swamp, and I still like the idea, but then I remembered that it would be much more convenient to have a base not too far from a village. Some people solve that by kidnapping villagers to their base but I don't want to do that. Instead I did some more exploring to find a village. I miss shulker boxes so much! And maps, and so many other resources.
I walked in the other direction through the swamp, which took a looong time because having to walk through a swamp sucks. On the other side I finally found a village – savannah – which is nice, but for some reason I wasn't as excited as I expected. Maybe it was just that I didn't vibe with the village, idk. But that sort of solidified for me that I want to keep playing in Aurantia for now.

I took a break of several weeks, mostly accidentally but also vacation etc., and then it was finally time for a big exploration trip in Aurantia! I picked a direction and off I went. …turns out I picked a direction with a looot of ocean. But then, after traveling nine thousand blocks, I finally found a desert!! The first one I found, very exciting. And a mangrove swamp too but the desert was more important. I found a desert well and then a temple and I did archaeology for the first time, very cool. Unfortunately there was not a lot of suspicious sand. I found several diamonds but only one pottery shard. I also found a large desert village, with a camel that tried to wander away and hide. I love the way the desert houses look, all the little decorations and stuff. The desert village is right between the desert temple and a large coral reef – finally I found coral! I both want to mine all of it, and none of it and leave it as it is because it is so pretty.
The next day I found another desert village with a second camel and then the day after that a third one, so I can breed them now if I want to.

I explored the desert further and found a mesa! Another first biome, very exciting, and it looks spectacular. There were many many mineshaft entrances/exits, I explored only one small one. There is also a plains and a jungle biome nearby, but I decided to look for more desert. I found another desert well where I found a second pottery shard, a larger mesa, and another very pretty big coral reef. No luck finding a warm ocean ruin so far, sadly. And trail ruins are going to be so hard to find…

At least that's what I thought! The next day I decided to leave the desert and explore the nearby jungle to maybe find one and it didn't even take that long. I spotted a red terracotta block on the ground and then saw gravel next to it and there it was. Archaeology is so cool, I love it. I had so much fun uncovering the structure, the different rooms and areas like the one with the campfire and the one with the cauldron, and the terracotta and especially the glazed terracotta parts look cool. There's mobs somewhere nearby that I hear all the time but I didn't manage to find them; what was more annoying was that there's also water nearby and on one side of the ruin I kept accidentally hitting water.

At first it felt like there was barely any suspicious gravel but I did end up finding a lot. A whole chest full of glass and candles and dyes etc., and some more exciting things: thirteen pottery shards, nine pieces of armor trim (three each of Shaper, Host, and Wayfinder, and sadly not a single Raiser one), and the new music disc Relic!

After I found my first piece of armor trim I played around on armortrims.com a bit and I really like Host for my helmet and Raiser for my pants. And Ribs for my chestplate, probably, though Shaper could also do in a pinch, and maybe Wild for shoes? It'll take me a while to get around to doing that so hopefully I'll find Raiser and Ribs and Wild and Dune too until then.

After I finished uncovering the trail ruin, which was so much that I already look forward to the next one, I explored the jungle a bit and I found a jungle pyramid! Very cool. (Sadly no Wild armor trim though.) I later looked it up on the wiki to make sure I hadn't missed anything and it turns out the levers I found, that I immediately removed because I thought they were part of a trap, were actually a puzzle, oops. I did find the chest though because I broke the blocks around it.
I really like that the jungle pyramid shows some uses for redstone in action; there's not enough of that imo, redstone is so cool but the game barely gives you any hints and then it's no wonder one doesn't think of using it. I think ancient cities have some of that too?, but I don't think I'd have the nerves to look at redstone in an ancient city.

I'm not completely sure what I want to do next: I kind of want to go back to my base, even though there's no pressing need for it, though I could unload some of the stuff I found and take some other things I forgot. I think I might be feeling slightly homesick I guess ^^ I can always come back afterwards. Maybe I'll see if I can find another stronghold? Or maybe enter the nether from further away and see if I can find another fortress, to find the Ribs armor trim? So many choices.

Also: I finally picked a skin! I'd wanted to do that for ages but it felt like a lot of pressure, so this time I decided to simply pick one that I think is okay, doesn't have to be perfect. I picked Female Adventurer by FennecFox, and I do like it (though it'll take some getting used to.)
