New Doctor Who

My mom reminding me that we have a family Disney+ account and a resurgence of Doctor Who posts in my fandom circles and the discovery that the latest season is available on Disney+ led to me watching Doctor Who again for the first time since 2018. (Wow, didn't think it'd been that long.) I'd started watching series 11 with a friend but then she was very busy and then that petered out and I never really got back into it. Until now, apparently! I'm enjoying this new season, it's a lot of fun. I'd forgotten just how well Doctor Who can do the combination of fun whimsy and horror when it's good. I'm glad I got caught up right before the season finale.
I was a bit worried that it'd be frustrating that I haven't watched the previous seasons, but mostly that's not a problem. It's similar to when I started watching the Ninth Doctor: there's a few more connections but I also got some spoilers just via canon osmosis. I bought the Doctor's terror of the Toymaker even without having watched the relevant episode(s?) (though if they too were available on Disney+ and/or I was less lazy I probably would) and it was an effective way of making the Maestro scary.
Speaking of scary things, that continued right on with the Doctor's fear in Boom, then the scary and tragic life of Ruby in 73 yards (her mother being turned against her :( ) and then, well, the entirety of Dot and Bubble. That was an excellent episode with a very effective ending.
Even Rogue, the Bridgerton cosplay episode, had its scary moments, and the Doctor getting angry and deciding to exile Ruby's murderers into a barren dimension for centuries in the hopes that they suffer. (Well to be fair he decided to exile them before he thought they killed Ruby, to stop them from hurting people, as an alternative to Rogue killing them.)
And then the cliffhanger of the penultimate episode, with so many mysteries! I'm excited to see the finale.
